Need answers to hysterectomy
Hi I am 39 yrs old, and just had a ultrasound and was told I have a endo mass about 13 x 9, a enlarged uterus, and adnomysis. Has anyone out there have the same symptoms and gone through a hysterectomy?

Need answers to hysterectomy
That's why I had mine Oct. 11. I was told I had a complex ovarian cyst (5 cm) taking over an entire ovary and at least 2 fibroids. Very, very scary, knowing that the 'mass' or 'cyst' couldn't be evaluated without hysterectomy. The cyst ended up being a simple cyst, but the fibroids/adenomyosis/endometriosis were much worse than expected. And, some hyperplasia was found during surgery. In a nutshell, the surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself. And this is less than 2 weeks post-op.

Need answers to hysterectomy
Hi there, whynot2007:
I had the same size fibroid as you - and the enlarged uterus is part of the package. The uterus grows to accommodate the fibroid. When my uterus came out just under six weeks ago, it was the size of a 16-week pregnancy. I'm nearly the same age as you as well.
The difference is that I always knew (for at least six years) I had "Fiona" as I named her (it was the only living thing to ever come out of my uterus and deserved a name) and was somewhat comfortable with her until she became symptomatic. That's when I decided to part ways with her. That was six weeks ago tomorrow.
The decision on treatment is yours and best decided when done in consultation with a physician who knows your story, your symptoms, your diagnosis and what your other options are. I had engaged in "watchful waiting" - their term, not mine - until I was ready. Then, I simply decided one day that enough was enough and Fiona was coming out.
It was the best decision I've ever made. I'm so grateful it's done. Little by little, I'm getting my life back. I was so anemic that I planned my life around avoiding being cold. I was often frustrated at work or at friends' houses because it was too cold. Restaurants drove me nuts because it was always cold in them. In addition, I literally kept an arsenal of personal supplies everywhere - vehicle, desk, purses, coat pockets, etc., - because I bled all the time. Finally, the little things I didn't even notice I was doing - leaning my car seat back so far that I was nearly laying down to avoid low back pain - have reversed themselves.
Getting a shock diagnosis when you weren't sure something was going on is always a little rough around the edges. The only advice I can give you is to talk to others about their experiences, talk to your physician, and also - although many may disagree with me - use the internet as a tool to get information. (If you use the internet, don't let it scare you. Take your questions back to your physician.) Also, this site is wonderful. Listen to the stories of the women here.
A pending hyster is not - and never will be - the greatest news in your life. But for me, it was the only way to get to a better life than what I was living. I wish you all the best in making your decision and your journey. I sincerely hope that you find that whatever you decide was worth it.
Good luck.

Need answers to hysterectomy
Thanks for all your time and stories. The problem here is that I was not feeling well a year ago and the doctors then could have figured this out then, 3 doctors later I finally find someone that believed that I was going through symptoms that truly was a cause of a medical situation. I might have not had to go to the extreme now if they had found this a year ago. Thats what is so frustrating about all of this. You know your body and what it does, you have to convince the doctors to keep checking without them thinking you are a nut case. I have mixed feelings about the hysterectomy, but I know that it must be done for my health and my family. Just really scared how I will fell about my body and how my husband, (who has been really supportive) feel about me.
thanks

Need answers to hysterectomy
Hi, I am 6 weeks post op today. I had my hyst. due to endo, adenomyosis and pelvic congestion. I was SCARED to death. It is normal to have mixed feelings about it. It is surgery. Even the morning of I was ready to bail out. However, it is wonderful not having that constant lower back ache that I always had. I went for my six week post op yesterday and I am still healing, not cleared for lifting, sex etc. However, I already feel better than I use to. I did keep my ovaries so I realize I run the risk of endo returning, however I am 39 and decided the benefits of keeping my ovaries outweighed the risk. But, getting rid of my awful enlarged uterus has relieved so much day to day pain. Good luck!
