having concerns

Hi ladies I am wondering if anyone can help me. I had a vag hyst on Jan 11 and had no idea that the cervix was also removed I guess I did not research it enough I just assumed the cervix was left in. Any way here is my question... I read that your sexuall experience will not be as pleasureable as it was before, can someone tell me if that is true I am a little concerned.

I can't tell you from experience because I'm only 9 days post op, but my doctor assured me that it will be just as pleasurable and maybe even better because if you had pain before you won't now. He said the only one who will know will be me, him and anyone else I choose to share this info with! I'm sure some of the other ladies who have graduated to that marker will be able to tell you for sure!

It has been my experience that the cervix/uterus/ovaries have absolutely nothing to do with your sexual experience. I was released for sex last week and every single thing about it has been wonderful. It does feel "different"... I can tell (and so can DH) that my cervix is gone, but it still feels good. Orgasms (I had first O at 3 weeks) are still as intense and as deep as they were before. I haven't had any issues with lubrication. And best of all, the pain I had before the surgery is gone!

Everyone is different... and every surgery/recovery is different. We all have to explore and get familiar with our new and improved bodies! Be patient with yourself... wait until your doc releases you and DO NOT cheat (although no one said you couldn't have "outer play" until it's time!). Try not to stress about it and try to keep your level of sexual interest up while you recover so that when you're ready, it will be exciting and new!

I had my hysterectomy last November, and the sex is better than ever.
Please don't be worried.

I can say that sex has been fantastic since my TAH. The first time after the surgery hurt some so my husband and I had to go very slowly (I had lubrication issues even though psychologically I was ready) but the lovemaking itself was even better than I had hoped it would be. It helped greatly that my husband was wonderfully patient and that we worked through the process of trying out my new body together. We attained a very deep, intense feeling and I was well beyond satisfied when we were finished. I have read on this board that this is a very common experience for women who've had a TAH or other similar surgery. Hormone levels can affect libido negatively but the removal of organs doesn't seem to.

i kept my cervix so i cant tell you if theres a difference. but, it makes me sad (and mad) that your dr didnt explain your procedure thoroughly to you at your pre-op or at a previous appt. i cant believe a dr would not tell a patient what exactly is being removed during a procedure. i hope when you have a post op visit, you will mention this to him so maybe in the future he will keep that in mind when he is talking to another patient about this surgery.

Wow.. I am sort of speechless reading these responses.. almost sad. See I have a complete take on things.. its been a very sore subject for me. Sex has been painful for me due to scar tissue on my vaginal cuff.. and I do not always have orgasms.. and when I do some times they are normal and other times they cause cramping at the peak. As I read how many people have a good experience with this I can not help but to want to cry.. I wish I could be included with you gals on this topic. I have blood disorders that prevent me from healing wounds correctly so I wonder if that is why my vaginal cuff is causing problems.. if that is the cause then I guess you have nothing to worry about! Good luck..
