Question about being extremely overweight and the LSH

Thank you so much! I got really good advice from everyone! I recently wrote a thread about feeling that no Doctor would listen to me and i couldn't stop crying! hystersisters stood by me and said to get another opinion! well, i found a nice doctor who listened to me and explained a lot to me! My doctor is going to schedule my hyster June 15,2009. She is going to try a LSH but may have to do an abdominal because i'm overweight! Is their any ladies who are overweight and had a successful LSH? i would greatfully appreciate your responses! I have preop on june 9th and than another with the hospital! I can't wait for a new life

Re: Ladies, I finally got my hysterectomy date!!!

Glad to hear you finally got a date! I'm scheduled for a LAVH next week and my doctor never said anything about having to switch to abdominal cause of my weight. (and trust me i'm quite overweight!)

You might find it helpful to read through the Tell Your Hyst Story forum where the stories are divided by hysterectomy types. Possible some of the ladies who had the LSH shared in their story if weight was an issue for them.

Hi, Pinkrocks!

I weigh 300 lbs and had a daVinci-assisted hysterectomy three weeks ago (with everything coming out through the vagina). My doctor told me the same thing that yours told you. He would try to do the daVinci, but he might have to change to abdominal if things weren't going smoothly.

I'm happy to report that everything went slick as can be, and both my surgery and recovery have been pretty much equivalent to what other sisters have reported, regardless of size.

I read some research prior to my surgery that said that the rate of complications for lapriscopic surgery does not change based on weight, so I'm guessing/hoping that everything will go well with yours.

Good luck!

Does it matter what if your extremely overweight to get LSH?

I'm not sure exactly if i can get LSH! My doctor wasn't positive because i'm very overweight. Can this run into a problem? She was babbling to herself about to much fat! Is abdominal the only answer? Thanks for your help! 5'3 237lbs. I'm a big girl! I'm going to make a effort to walk everyday after the hyster to help my life better!
