Pre-Op Anxiety
I am scared to death. I found out my surgery date earlier today. I have been having ongoing problems for the past nine years, been diagnosed with adenomyosis, and told by three different OBGYN's that hysterectomy was the only thing left for me to do in order to alleviate the pain. I trust my Dr. 100% and think he's great. I was okay with having the surgery when I left his office the other day. I did some research online yesterday, and now I'm fighting off panic attacks. Will I gain weight? Will I lose my sex drive? Will my orgasms not be as strong? Will I have to go through menopause in 5 years even though I'm keeping my ovaries? Will my personality change? I can't talk to my husband about my fears. He is worried sick already, so I don't want to worry him more with my concerns. As far as he knows, I am perfectly fine with everything. In reality, I'm a basket case. Did anyone else feel this way? More importantly, how did you deal with and/or get through it? I need help...or a shrink...or both.

Pre-Op Anxiety
Hi Angie!
I am feeling a little bit like you and have had a lot of your same anxieties! I am scared about what the future holds but I am also anticipating being "pelvically painfree"!! HaHa
I don't think you need a shrink. I think you need a couple of says to digest the date. I know I did when I found mine out. I think once you have a few days behinf you, keep reading up on the HysterSisters board, etc.. you will not feel so anxious. I think there are a lot of negative sites out there that really scare women off. I am a member of one Endo group where even mentioning that you are having an "H" results in all these messages denouncing the surgery. I am trying to be positive about this. Both My Mom and Aunt had Hysterectomies and neither one is overweight, has a moustache, or hates sex....
Hang in there girl!

It will be ok, you'll see
Awww Angie, I feel for you. I was in your shoes 4 1/2 months ago. I was so ready to have the hysterectomy when I too left my Dr.'s office and after getting home I cried, didn't think I wanted to go through with it, etc... I thought I needed professional help but I tell you, this site got me though everything way more than my hubby, parents, sister or friends could. It helped so much to be able to talk to people here that were or had gone through the same thing. It helps to post as many questions or concerns and see how wonderful and soothing the responses are. I was so scared about losing my sex drive and not feeling like a woman anymore. I pictured myself feeling like I was 80 years old, etc... I had such a hard time with it, I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. Again, post all your concerns and questions and you'll find comfort and it will ease your mind a bit.
As I stated, I'm 4 1/2 months post op and feel fairly good. It takes time to heal and I'm doing it more and more each day. I feel so much better than I did 5 months ago.
If you ever need to talk, please feel free to email me rainbow@tele-net.net I'm here for you, as are a lot of other women on here. Keep your head high and think positive thoughts!!!
