Bowel Prep - Yikes
I'm beginning to feel more concerned about the bowel prep than the surgery. Nothing to eat after lunch on monday. Cear liquid dinner than start prep at 7pm. Will I get any rest that night at all? How long does the bowel prep take? I have anxiety and this procedure isn't going to help that at all.

Bowel Prep - Yikes
It sounds like what I had to do for my colonoscopy. If it is, no problem sleeping. Lots of hunger in the morning, but no big deal really. Most bowel preps are no big deal, I've had many. Most people are afraid just because it's something new and the docs don't usually say much except to do it.
So just relax and don't worry, it's really not all that bad.
Good luck.
Pam

I was wondering the same thing. How am i going to sleep if i am on the toilet all night!! LOL. Don't worry about it. It sounds like something we all have to do at least once (or twice for some people) in our lifetime. My doctor says I have to drink a gallon of this stuff in two hours!!

Yeah I have done alot of them also. They don't taste the best, depending on what kind, but that are not that bad. Just remember not to leave the house once you start even if you think you will be only gone for 5 mins. once it starts working if you don't have a bathroom handy, it could be nasty. And make sure you follow your Dr's orders about the food. I found that out the hard way, the first time I had to do one. I ate something when I wasn't suppose to before I started drinking it and I ended up vomiting alot. So just follow the Dr's orders and it will be ok.

As far as the sleeping I had no problem when I had to use it. Everything was out of my system by the time I went to bed. And yeah if you have the liquid that you have to drink, it is a gallon. You will probably have to drink a measured amount every 15 mins. that is what I had to do when I had my colonoscopy.

Hi;
its not that bad, really. I had the same thing for my surgery. I had a good lunch and had a clear chicken broth for dinner, which I didnt mind because I was still full from lunch, and I started my fleet enema at 7:30. by 10-10:30pm everything that needed to come out did
what are they telling you to do at 7pm?

If it's the same thing they give for colonoscopy, I agree, you'll be fine by bed and it didn't taste too terribly bad. I didn't use the flavoring you can get. One thing when I drank it, I felt like I was freezing to the bone constantly until it was pretty much out of my system. They nurse told me when I mentioned it that some people have said that they felt chilled, too. If nothing else, it all made me less anxious about the procedure because I wanted to go on and get through it so I could eat again.

nfld1064: when I did my fleet enema it started working after 2-5 minutes I went 3-4 more times and that was it. so from the time I started to finish I would say a good 2-3 hours maybe less. hugs.

I guess I'm lucky because I can have breakfast, then magnesium citrate at 12:00 noon. From then on, nothing but liquids til midnight and nothing after midnight. I also have to take a Pepcid at bedtime and one early Tuesday morning with a sip of water before leaving for the hospital. No emema for me!
