Re: Nightmares ~ anyone else?

It's probably a hold over from the anesthetic or a hormonal issue. Consider one of the guided imagery tapes to help you sleep. Or Tylenol PM. But check with your doctor before self medicating . . . hope this helps.

I have crazy dreams all of the time anyway and immediately after my surgery, it was even worse. Or I cannot sleep at all. But I found the GI stuff helped a lot. I still use it.

Take care, it will get better.

Re: Nightmares ~ anyone else?

i am 3 wks post op and i am having the same problem. i too have nightmares and the dreams i have are very vivid. i was told by my doctor that it was normal bc our body went through so much during surgery. they said it would pass, but it hasnt yet. i am curious to see you responses. i have tried not watching tv before i go to sleep, but instead reading a magazine. good luck and i hope this problem passes for the both of us.

take care

Re: Nightmares ~ anyone else?

I too have had some EXTREME dreams. Some which actually made me sit up it bed (bad mistake on the tummy, buy hey the dreams are giving me nightmares, lol) Anyway, I am starting on my 3rd week post op and have found that as I lower my pain meds (I'm on percaset) they are decreasing a bit. Maybe it is just our subconcious mind wandering about the redecorating of part of our internal being. Hope they all ease for you, and you all get some much needed rest.

Re: Nightmares ~ anyone else?

I am just beginning my second week post-op... but had some crazy nightmares last night. I usually don't remember my dreams but last night kept being wakened by recurring dreams of dogs getting hit by cars, or finding dead dogs... I'm a huge animal lover and this was very, very disturbing! Fortunately, none of the dogs in the dreams were dogs that I know. Weird though... I'm sure these vivid dreams are brought on by the pain meds. I'm still pretty heavily medicated for pain.

Good luck with getting some restful sleep. I sometimes find that restful sleep can be brought on by reading something comforting, spiritual or uplifting right before sleep. We definately carry thoughts with us to the dream world that we've thought throughout the day...Don't know what that says about my dog dreams though...

I wish you some sweet dreams tonight!

Re: Nightmares ~ anyone else?

Three weeks post-op today. Still having vivid dreams and nightmares about being left alone and abandoned.
It's got to be some sort of stress reaction to the surgery/hormones.
They have become less frequent since the surgery for me, but I still have them.
This is definitely a rough time for all of us.
My DH says he'd love to be at home for six weeks reading and watching TV. I explained to him that I'd love it too if I wasn't sad and hurting and tired all the time!
