Surgery Scheduled for March 12th

I just wanted to say hi and thanks in advance to all of you for sharing your experiances. My gyn. appt. was on Jan.16th. I had suspected that a hyterectomy would be recomended. I have a stage 2 uteran prolapse. I was taking a shower in December and found a little something extra to wash.(if you get my hint) First I looked up prolapse info on the web. There was alot of information, but most of it seemed to be from people who were angry that their doctor had recommended a hysterectomy. So I started to look up hysterectomy, and thats when I found this site. I can honestly say that I felt very self assured when I went to my visit. I can't tell you how liberating having knowledge feels. I am going to donate my own blood ahead of time, and my Mom also has my blood type, and she'll be in the waiting room. I am a little nervous about the anethesia though. I don't want to be awake for it (I'm not sure what they usually do), but I also have alot of anxiety about being put all the way out. My pre-op appt is on March 7, I am curious as to what happens during that appt., Look forward to hearing from some of you. Thanks for all your sharing.

Pre-op appointment

The pre-op appointment for me included the doctor explaining what he was going to do, anesthesia info and how long I would be off work and how long before I could drive. I had the total abdominal hysterectomy and had both ovaries removed, as well as the cervix and tubes. This was done with a "bikini cut." I was told not to drive for six weeks and not to return to work before 6 weeks. You should also have a pre-op date for the hospital where they take your blood pressure, draw your blood, take a chest x-ray and an EKG. The hospital also had a doctor clear me for surgery by giving me a general medical exam. Each hospital may have a different policy.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS: TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF POST-OP OR YOU COULD HAVE COMPLICATIONS. DON'T LIFT ANYTHING HEAVY. THE DOCTOR WILL TELL YOU YOUR LIMITATIONS AND FOR HOW LONG AT YOUR PRE-OP VISIT OR BEFORE LEAVING THE HOSPITAL.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you would like any other info.
