Happy about having hysterectomy !
I joined this site nearly 5 years ago, when the word "hysterectomy" came up during a GYN appt. due to fibroids. I was 40 at the time (I'm 45 now) and didn't even want to THINK about the surgery - instead I prayed for an early menopause. 5 years later I've decided I just can't do this anymore - I can't take the flooding, the constant spotting, the ruined sheets, ruined underwear, ruined clothing and ruined chairs, the lower back pain, the cramps.
I just scheduled my hysterectomy for March 20th ..... I'm HAPPY about it - I feel like celebrating.
I'm sure some of that will change as the date gets closer and I start getting worried about the actual procedure and recovery, but right now I'm HAPPY and just starting my next to last period forever
I have a ton of questions, but I'll start other posts for those. For now I just want to say "I'm back and this time I'm HAPPY about being here".

Happy about having hysterectomy !
Hi, I'm really happy too about my decision - my surgery is in 2 days - every time I start to get nervous I think about how happy I was the day I spoke to my Dr. and she set the date. (back in Nov.)
I know the recovery will be something to "get through" but I am very hopeful that the result will be a much better quality of life. take care,

Happy about having hysterectomy !
Hi HopefulSis - all the best on your surgery. You've given my a great idea - to write down exactly how I feel right now so that I can go back and read it when the nervousness sets in !
I look forward to reading more from you on the Post-Op forum ! May you have a speedy and easy recovery so that you can begin your new life soon !

Happy about having hysterectomy !
I, too, am happy about my decision and am looking forward to feeling good again. I know that is a little down the road, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I read somewhere that one positive person was looking at their hysterectomy as a time of renewal. I am trying to have that mindset (trying is the operative word).
The upbeat feeling I receive on these boards is a big help.
Good luck, Hopeful! I also look forward to reading your Post-Op news!

Happy about having hysterectomy !
I'm already planning a pad & tampon burning party --- I'll also be melting my supply of Midol during the festivities.
I know the recovery is going to be rough, but I'm thinking to think of it in terms of 12 consecutive weeks of "bad times" vs 120 weeks spread over 10 potential years (1 wk / month x 10 years) --- sounds like a pretty big net gain to me !

Happy about having hysterectomy !
When I told people I was having a hysterectomy, there reply was always "Oh I am sorry" to which I would say "oh I am not, I am excited!"
I also just had my 6 week check today and was telling my dr. how easy it has been and he said he really believes your attitude has so much to do with your recovery. I went into thinking it could not be near as bad as my periods and it wasnt, not one day! I will also add that I was careful not to over do it in the first few weeks as some do!
