Hysterectomy (TVH) plus rectocele repair, vaginal lift, bladder lift, vault and perineum repair?
Apparently I'm having a total lady part overhaul. I had a bladder lift several years ago but they are going to re-do it. They are also doing rectocele repair, vault(?) repair, vaginal lift, and repairing the opening of my vagina. Has anyone else had all this at once and how long before you can go back to a desk job, start to feel normal, able to have intercourse? I'm starting to get a little nervous. Help.

Re: Hysterectomy (TVH) plus rectocele repair, vaginal lift, bladder lift, vault and perineum repair?
Hi Bettaboo to HysterSisters!
I am sorry you are dealing with so much repair work. I have read posts from other women having similar all-complete repair work. Your nerves and emotions are very normal. This is one tough surgery to face and digest.
I can answer some of your questions.
Just in general with a hysterectomy, you are restricted from sexual intercourse as well as any other sexual activity for six to eight weeks. I do not know if the other repairs you are having will extend that or not. You will also have lifting restrictions - 10 lbs for six weeks. Again your other repairs may extend this.
How long you will be out of work depends on how fast you recover and your job duties. Keep in mind it takes more energy than you think to be at work - even at a desk job. I had a TAH BSO and went back to work at a moderate stress desk job after 3 weeks. BUT, I could only handle part time work for an additional 4 weeks, and that was TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH. After that I went back full time, but no OT. To feel 100% normal where I did not think about surgery took about 15 months.
Everyone is different, but recovery from this surgery takes time. You need to listen carefully to your body, and follow all of your doctor's instructions. Allow yourself to rest, and move VERY SLOWLY back into your life.

Thanks Marestail. I guess the things that have me the most worried, is the level of pain with all of those repairs, and the fact that I keep being told by women, that they felt like everything was "falling out" after their surgery.

Re: Hysterectomy (TVH) plus rectocele repair, vaginal lift, bladder lift, vault and perineum repair?
Hi Hun. I understand exactly what you're going through. I had a total vaginal hysterectomy, cystocele prolapse, rectocele prolapse, vaginal vault suspension, and a midurethral sling procedure all during the same surgery . This was on April 30. This first week I experienced some pain that had me telling myself that maybe I was an idiot for doing it all in one shot. That's the bad news...
The good news is that provided that you follow your doctor's instructions you may find as I have that by day four the pain will be so insignificant you won't even care for plain Tylenol. By day 7 (yesterday) I felt sooo great I started trying to do things like dishes and going for a walk. Big mistake. I felt like I ran a marathon and not in a good way.
So my advice to you is there may be pain but it seems to subside fairly quickly all things considered. Just be careful not to push yourself too quickly when you start to feel better. Follow whatever limitation they put to the letter. Best of luck and health to you!,,

Cmeilin81 thanks for responding. I've been able to find info on each procedure separately but not much info on all of the procedures together. It's been really helpful finding others who have had a similar surgery.

No worries. I feel the same way, separately there is a lot of information, but it's becoming more common to see these procedures done together from what I gather. Especially true if you're have it done vaginally as I have. Today is day 11 for me and I'm no longer on any kind of pain medication. I feel great. The pain is very manageable, even less then menstrual cramping. Just have to keep reminding myself that even though I feel better, everything I had done was on the inside and it's not as easy to see how far you've healed.
Best of luck to you. Please let us know how you're doing afterwards!!

Re: Hysterectomy (TVH) plus rectocele repair, vaginal lift, bladder lift, vault and perineum repair?
I had all of the surgeries together on Jan. 6. I was working from home on my laptop by week 2, but in a reclining position. It wasn't until about 8 weeks that I could walk AT ALL without pain--and then it was just getting from point A to point B, no real exercise. It slowly got a little better and around week 12, I was able to start taking "exercise" walks and sitting up fairly comfortably. At 17 weeks, I am up to 2+ miles per day. It has not been easy, but it has definitely been worth it. I truly have a renewed and positive outlook on life. Hope this helps, HUGS, CJ

Re: Hysterectomy (TVH) plus rectocele repair, vaginal lift, bladder lift, vault and perineum repair?
I am eight weeks out from my surgery. I didn't even attempt to sit for three weeks. I had an adjustable back rest for my bed which allowed me to sleep at an angle for the first week and then recline without sitting. Sitting is ok now but my stomach gets hard and swollen if I sit too long. The surgery is hard but well worth it. I am still worried about a relapse but have been assured by the ladies here that is normal. My surgery was 6.5 hours and when I want to do more things I have to remind myself that this was several major surgeries done all at once.
I walked myself back to feeling better. My doctor told me Ito rest but if I wanted anything to get up and get it yourself no matter what. So I did. I started walking with my catheter bag hooked on my moms walker around our pool. It took many days to walk a mile but I did it by doing half in morning and half in afternoon. I have walked 130 miles in 8 weeks. But I still don t feel great, I still get tired and I still get pain but it will all be worth it .
This is a hard journey with twinges ,pings aches pains, discharges and all sorts of things but this sight will help through it all it helped me good luck
