"It's not major surgery"

Okay, major vent coming your way...hold on to your hats!!

I thought I educated him; I though he was listening; I though he understood!! Who? Hubby!

We were talking earlier about how he was going to take time off while I was in the hospital. He plans to work from home. I told him that if it was at all possible not to tell his boss that I was having a hyster but that I was having "major surgery" instead. He looked at me strangely and said he couldn't do that. Why not I asked? Because, he said "It's not major surgery."

:explode:

Naturally, I corrected him...Naturally!

Now, was it that he wasn't listening or is he in denial?

Don't get me wrong...I that man to pieces...but sometimes......well...<sigh>

Vent mode off Thanks for listening.

"It's not major surgery"

Oh, they sure are lovable creatures, but sometimes we just want to bop them in the head! Did he say why he doesn't consider it major surgery? I think a lot of people feel this way because it's such a common surgery. Even my dtr-in-law, who was in no way trying to minimize my situation, compared it to a C-section. She's a very caring person and both her mom and sister have had hysts for fibroids.

Men just don't get it, do they? Come here to vent whenever....we sure do get it!

"It's not major surgery"

If this isn't "major", what is? Brain surgery? Heart transplant? The incisions, amount of "body" removed and stitches are more in a hysterectomy than in those examples!! Give me a break! If just ONE MAN had to have a hysterectomy, or even childbirth, or even a PERIOD EVERY MONTH -- we wouldn't hear a peep out of them! Most men I know take to their beds when they have a sniffle!

Men! You got to love 'em.

Why don't you ask DH what surgery would be for him if he had his reproductive organs removed -- Major -- Minor??? He might see your point then -- along with a squeemish, take-your-breath-away groan.

HOld your ground and take care of you.

Peace,
MKC

Ohhh...he understands now!

He was under the impression because it will be done laparascopically it's not major. I had my appendix removed like that last year and was back at work in a week. I told him that they will be removing a major organ and that they will be doing some major reconstruction in there.

He understands now. So much so that he just told me that he doesn't think it's a good idea for me to go back to work too quickly after.

Gotta him.

"It's not major surgery"

Hi Laura,
Wait until he is waiting on you hand and foot for weeks after your surgery, and wait until he hears that you won't be having sex for probably 6 weeks after.....bet he'll realize then just how major it is!! lol.....

I am sure your husband is a fine man!! But to alot of men they probably think its simply a little snip, snip like a vasectomy.
When in fact the only thing they have in common is "tomy" at the end of the word.

Best of luck with your surgery!!

"It's not major surgery"

I just had my surgery a couple days ago. I can relate. I had my gall bladder out 6 months ago and he was barely any help. I told him this time I need his help no exceptions. I took to talk with my Doctor before my surgery and that seemed to help. The nurse discharging me at the hospital also told us both to please remember that I just had major surgery (TVH)she said you may not see what has been done but that doesn't lessen the seriousness of the surgery. He has been wonderful I hope it stays this way. Good Luck--TerryMB
