Hot Flashes vs Night Sweats

Can anybody tell me the difference between hot flashes and night sweats. I have not had any night sweats, but several times each night I wake up and feel this burning-heat-like sensation in my chest area that spreads to my face. Is this a hot flash?

Like you, I didn't experience any night sweats. Before getting firmly established on my hormone therapy I had some hot flashes (and cold flashes, too!). The hot flashes I have had sound a lot like what you have described. They started in my chest and the warmth spread up to my face. The ones I had never lasted very long.

Well, I am having BOTH although I still have my ovaries.

The night sweats are HORRIBLE. I soak through numerous pairs of jammies in one night. Wake up with the sheets soaked, pillow soaked, and sometimes even the mattress pad.

And the hot flashes, they come out of nowhere and last about 5 to 10 minutes. For me the hot flash just comes on and it seems to go right to my head.

I use one of my swelly bands when that happens. I wrap it around my head bandana style LOL
