Please help - TVH on 7-1-11 Entire abdomen swollen

Hello, I'm Signe.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy on 7-1-11. Just took uterus, not ovaries. Yesterday I think I really overdid it straightening our house for a showing to a prospective tenant.

Now my entire abdomen, practically up to my chin, is swollen. Seriously feels pumped up like a balloon. I can't wear any clothes that were very loose just days before!

I look and feel 9 months pregnant. If I eat or drink it just feels like the food will come right up because it has nowhere to go. I've been taking Miralax and Sencot and today I think I'll avoid eating all together.

I have had bowel movements that were tiny and difficult to get out. Also, urinating is difficult.

Is this normal? Thank you so very much for reading!

Re: Signe

REST REST REST!!! I had the same problem with bowels well into week 1 post-op. Continue to drink more water, I called the doctor and got a prescription for an anti-nausea medication-that helped. It was day four or five before I could have a BM. Try prunes, prune juice, etc.

So very important to keep hydrated. Don't stop drinking. I did go back to "clear liquid diet" (all things you can see through) for a few days until things got moving.

Walk gently around the block, but don't do much bending, pulling, etc.

Is there someone you can have come over and take care of the "details" of the house?

Take care of you~the hardest part is letting go of "superwoman" for a bit.

Steph

Re: Signe

It is WAY too soon to be doing housework. As is said many times on this website, we only get one chance to heal right. You have had MAJOR surgery and need to give your body time to heal. When you swell, you've done too much. Please take it easy!

Re: Signe

I agree with Steph....and honey it is way to soon to be moving around and doing all of that. Please get your feel up and take it easy. I notice my belly does the same thing when I do too much.

Yes, please rest. That will bring some of the swelling down. My is still somewhat swollen 16 days post op (TVH) and swells even more at night. Please protect yourself by doing less!
