Restless legs and insomnia 3+ weeks post hysterectomy

Hello everyone, I really need advice.
Going back 11 years I had restless leg syndrome when I was pregnant in my left leg. Than for the past year I have had it again in my left leg prior to surgery based on my cancer. For a few days after surgery I was good now it is back and now only in my right leg. This is the reason for my insomnia......as soon as I get to bed it starts. I tried sleeping in different positions, sleepig with a body pillow, sleeping in a recliner and on my couch.. ..nothing!! Anyone else having this issue? How can I make it go away and get to bed before 600am!!!! I am sooooo tired

Re: Restless legs and insomnia

Hi, Some people have RLS due to medical condition like diabetes, etc..You may want to talk to your Dr.. Have you tried B12, folic acid, magnesium & melatonin? Its a catch 22 but Insomnia is also hormonal..So you nay want to discuss this w your Dr too.. Avoid caffeine past 2 pm. Does relaxing techniques help you? Meditation? Walking a couple times thru the day, hydrate well. I hope you get some sleep.

I get restless legs sporadically, but usually I can sleep with a pillow between my knees and it helps. Sounds like you've already tried that.

I'd probably start with your GP to see if there are some tests to run for any mineral deficiencies in your diet, or any underlying disorder that hasn't been detected (ie thyroid, kidney). Your doc can probably also go over any meds including OTC, supplements including herbal, activities and your diet to see if something can be tweaked, substituted or eliminated. Your GP might opt to refer you to a sleep specialist or neurologist.
Good luck! It might benefit others with an update later.

Thank you everyone. I have started to take magnesium and have a follow up with my cancer DR this week. I am going to mention it to him to see what he says.

It is so frustrating but I hope I can resolve it soon. I used to take a hot bath to settle it but still can't have a bath until my DR says it's OK.
