Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I knew that I wanted a hysterectomy, and that it was the right choice for me. The first doctor was soft spoken, and she didnt seem very confident. I went to another doctor that was very confident, and that made me feel a lot more relaxed. She also had a lot more experience than the first doctor. I am so glad that I chose her and that I had the procedure.

Did you get a second opinion?

My surgeon made me feel so comfortable. That was a big factor in me deciding to go forward with her. I am also glad she performed my surgery.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

That poll needs to have an option to click if you didn't WANT a second opinion. I've wanted a hysterectomy for years. I didn't need or want a second opinion. Without the option to say tht you did/did not want a second opinion, it sorta makes it look like you're supposed to get one. We're not *all* angsty about the freedom the surgery is going to provide!

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I actually saw a specialist first! It's a long story how that happened but once I put all the pieces of the puzzle together I immediately made an appointment with my gyn. He confirmed all of the specialist findings and was the one who suggested I have the hysterectomy as well as the other surgeries the specialist wanted to do. He discussed it with my urogyn and they agreed it would be best. Best second opinion ever; I would recommend the second every time.

Secind Opinion?

No- I trusted my doc as she specializes in "problems" - and, I was SO desperate to be rid if my painful heavy periods and exhaustion that I guess the second opinion thought never entered my mind. I was also in shock and much emotional upheaval - since they detected a mass in my cervix- that I just wanted to "get it out!!!" I feel like I made the right choice but this whole thing has devastated me.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Last winter (2011), I went through many tests to see if I was a candidate for an ablation.(if that is the correct term? Much less healing time). It was determined that I was not and a hysterectomy was recommended. My condition was minor at the time so I opted to try to wait until winter of 2013 which would be the next most convenient time for my family.

In the mean time, I spoke with several friends who have gone through this. They were all positive and emphasized that I need to take the entire 6 weeks before returning to work. I had plenty of time to think it over and be very positive about the decision.

Things worsened this winter. I was irregular and when I did get my period it could last 2 - 3 weeks, I could barely move and when I did had to get to the restroom. I decided I could not wait another year so confidently contacted my doctor and asked for the referral.

I am very happy with my decision and I think taking the extra time to be certain was valuable in my positive attitude with the entire process.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I didn't get a 2nd opinion it was my idea. It didn't make it any less scary but I am glad I made that decision. My life is not interrupted by long, heavy, painful periods accompanied with bad pap smears causing extra work done to my cervix.

Talking - Did you get a second opinion? Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I didn't get a second opinion for my hysterectomy because my doctor is a specialist in his field and I found him by doing research on my problems first. He is incredible!
