TAH/BSO scheduled - need info about prophylactic oophorectomy

red

Hi Everyone!

I was on here a few weeks ago telling you I was going to have a hysterectomy because of a high CA-125 and a Mother who died of ovarian cancer. You all screamed "No, go see an ob/gyn oncologist and thanks to you things have changed. I am now having my ovaries out along with the tubes and hoping they don't find cancer whilest they are in there. My question is, I know I will be going through menopause now and I need to know what kind of preparation I need in terms of vitamins etc. If anyone has had this type of surgery I would love to hear about it i.e. pain levels, recovery time and what I should get, bring to the hospital etc. I want to thank you all for being there when I really needed you and for bringing other methods to my attention!!!
Hugs
Karen

Hi Karen, I am scheduled to have both ovaries removed on November 14, due to a complex cyst on the right ovary. I have found a lot of info in RESOURCES, you may want to check there. Keep us posted, Carol

TAH/BSO scheduled - need info about prophylactic oophorectomy

Hi Karen:

I can relate my experience. I had my ovaries out a few weeks ago. Pain was moderate to minimal. I was out of pain 2 weeks later. I went home the same day, but they did caution me that I might need to stay overnight and to pack a minimal overnight bag.

Your doctor should advise you about presurgery medications including vitamins. So, if you have not been told, go ahead and call the nurse and ask.

Best wishes to you. they don't find cancer!
