Sex at 4wks post-op

Im 4wks post-op. I had a TVH, only my uterus removed. Been healing well, no bleeding since I left the hospital. I saw my doctor yesterday, he did an exam, said there was still some suture material. But said I was healing very well. He gave me the go ahead for sex. Everything Iv read on here says you need to at least wait 6wks. So even though he said I could, Im a still a lil scared. Also when I got home there was some spotting, and a stitch had come out. I figured since he said I could have sex, I would explore a lil myself, to see what it felt like inside, I could feel stitches, there hard and poked my finger, surely my bf will feel them as well. So opinions on having sex at 4wks?

My doctor told me 6 weeks. Just about everyone I spoke with told me their doctor gave them the clearance at 6 wks.

Maybe it depends on the surgery? Did they remove your cervix?

If you had a vaginal hysterectomy, then he must have also removed your cervix??

Thats what I thought, but the nurse told me yesterday when she was doing my work-up that only my uterus was removed, was going to ask the doctor, but the sex thing threw me and I forgot.

My doctor told me to wait 8 weeks. I'm at 8 weeks and might still wait. Cervix and uterus were removed

Re: Sex at 4wks post-op

You can have a hysterectomy and keep your cervix..it's a supracervical or partial hysterectomy versus a total hysterectomy which would remove both the uterus and the cervix. I imagine you should trust your Doc...I see mine next week at just shy of six weeks...personally I'm scared to death. I would say take it slow. I've told my partner that I'm pretty nervous so if I am cleared, it will be slow and he knows to manage his expectations and give me some time...

Hi justrenee45, I am glad that you are progressing well. If it were me, I would wait. Just because the doctor says you can doesn't mean you have to. To me it means that you have his clearance once you decide you are ready. I didn't proceed when I got the clearance at 8 weeks because my body didn't feel ready. I waited several more weeks then proceeded when I felt ready and everything was fine. I didn't believe my body had healed as much as he thought although I had an excellent experienced surgeon. Personally, if I felt stitches, I would wait a while longer . I waited longer anyway. What harm will it do to wait a few more weeks? Best to you on whatever you decide.
