Pre op today... feeling kinda numb at the moment. (children mentioned)

So, I had my pre op today and I also had an IVP to get a map of my bladder for a mini sling.

I am seeing a great specialist, from what I have read and heard he is the best of the best in this area and specialises in endo / menopause, HRT and sexual dysfunction and so on. He has done many surgeries, he basically writes studies on lap and robotic, he teaches and so on. He sounds wonderful but I have to honestly say I do not have a "relationship" with him so to speak.

With my last doc I saw him for my exams, we talked about things and we created a bond and a relationship. Due to the endo in my background and where it was and the extent of it he basically said I will put my ego aside and send you to the best.

So, I go for my visits and basically see other doc's to do the work up's and ultra sounds and so on and then I go to a room to talk to him, like a re-cap. Today I saw the doc who will be in the room assisting, that was who I spoke to and asked my questions about the surgery and then we went to see him. We confirmed the date andwe did chat briefly about my sadness with this all. I let him know I am glad and ready but still sad to close this chapter in my life. A little back story, I have been trying for kids since Jan 2004 when I was married. I did end up with two beautiful girls, 5 mc's and 2 laps (last on in Sept 09 and they found all the endo)... charting, testing, clomid and so on with years on "unexplained infertility". Had my last two mc's in Sept 09 and then we tried... nothing for the past two years. On my 44th b-day I decided enough was enough and ended my journey by trying hormones for my pain and endo / adeno. He basically wanted to make sure I was ready, I said yes, but sad. He said the chances of getting pregnant at 44 are just about as successful as with having no uterus... basically very hard to almost impossible. He asked if I wanted to cxl my surgery, and of course I do not want to. I am ready and I am pray for (and looking forward to) pain free days. But it is still hard.

OK, I am not sure where I am going with this... I guess it was just so strange to have this doctor who I have no real personal relationship working with me (as I tend to be one who likes a bond) chat with me briefly about a surgery that will change my life... just felt underwhelming, strange, impersonal...

Anyway, I guess when you get as good as he is and as sought out as he does and as busy as he does maybe he just does not have the time to sit and do the footwork with all of his patients? He is a nice man... he does seem caring and I know he is good at what he does. I guess I just miss that personal sde of things.

My surgery is on 10/13, gonna be a bittersweet stressful 8 days for sure. And, what is with the 5 mg vicodan after surgery? Is this normal? I had gotten percocet for my lap surgery and after my d&c's... seems so strange to get vicodan after a major surgery? Wondering what you all were given. I guess I will wait and see and if it is not enough I will have to call and get something stronger.

And, I guess he will take everything out unless one or both ovaries look well and healthy. Then he might leave them in so I will not go into menopause (hopefully) just yet.

Thanks for letting me vent... I am one who likes to talk things out... just saying it helps and then getting your words of advice and stories also helps so thanks again.

Best of luck, Kim. I think it says a lot that your regular doctor thinks enough of you to get you with a specialist in the field. It is a strange relationship for you but it sounds like the specialist does understand your concerns. Please begin to look through the post-op threads & get an idea of what you will be facing when you return home from surgery. I don't think you can get enough information! I had diVinchi on 11/21 and have not regretted my decision. 2 weeks later I am feeling really good. Hoping things go well for you!
