Re: Stairs after hysterectomy?

Yup...slow and steady might be the way to go. I was told I could do stairs, BUT....not for exercise and only when necessary - not more than a couple times a day for the first several weeks. So...plan your outings accordingly and you should be good to go. Take care and good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Re: Stairs after hysterectomy?

I climbed our two flights seven hours after surgery with no problems. I did one foot at at a time and very slowly. It wasn't even painful but once upstairs I didn't need to do them again for awhile, but yes very slow, one foot at a time don't alternate feet step up bring foot to same step step up again. You'll be fine.

Re: Stairs after hysterectomy?

I would face the wall when going up the stairs at first. It helped to have the handrail in both hands for balance

Re: Stairs after hysterectomy?

I had a full abdominal incision for a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago - stayed in the hospital 2 nights - and came home to 17 stairs... it was fine.
