well woman visit--thyroid hormones

Sleep problems can be thyroid or ovarian hormones. It can be other things, too, I'm sure. I take thyroid medication most every day. Sometimes I forget but I can't tell the difference. I had a partial thyroidectomy due to a cancer scare. Turned out to be a goiter. I still have half a thyroid but I take the meds so the thyroid I do have doesn't have to work as hard. After my thyroid surgery, I had trouble staying awake during the day. I wanted to nap all the time -- which is so unlike me.

I had my surgery 10 days ago TAH/BSO and, so far, I haven't had any problems sleeping. My hot flashes are worse than pre-surgery and my night sweats are only mildly worse. All in all, it's tolerable and, so far, no HRT for me. The doc said something about waiting two weeks. I don't have an appointment until my six-week checkup, so I don't know if he's just going to write a prescription or what he plans to do.

Well I'm really not having trouble sleeping. I take Calcium and Xanax at night. Sometimes I can't get back to sleep easily if I get up to go to the bathroom though.

I was diagnosed with Hypothyroid about a year or so before my TAH/BSO 06/2008. I still need to go in and have levels checked. I have been prescribed Premarin but have not started it yet. I have the hot flashes and I'm lucky if I get 4-6 hours of sleep. I find that I can't get through the night without having to urinate a few times. The following website has FAQ's and web brochures that explain symptoms, diagnosis, etc... www.thyroid.org

Yes I just got my results back today and I have a hypo thyroid issue, I am now on medication for it I guess the max level is 4.5 and I was 9.4 so now they put me on meds. This is very scary never had to deal with anything like this before. I have been losing weight too not gaining. lost 17 pounds in 2 months, not the norm.

Well I'm still taking iron pills as I was anemic for awhile. I had a thyroid test on Nov 21, but now she is not sure as I'd had low thyroid and now she says it's a little high(5). So going from a .01 to 5? She says that is unlikely in 3 months time and I've had my records mixed up with someone else previously. She wants a retest and I agree.

Hi I just got back all my tests and ultra sound results. My synthroid has everything under control. You can tell the difference when your meds are working. Good luck to everyone.

I count my blessings. One that I got a partial hyst in May so now at 53 I no longer have to think about periods, bleeding and all that crap. But now I do have to think about my thyroid and just got on Synthroid yesterday. My level was 5.7. I feel a bit off balance and I found a board that helps me talk to others that are dealing with similar issues. I feel bad for the gals who are relatively young and trying to get pregnant and to deal with thyroid stuff too.

My heart goes out to everyone. I haven't been at this board for a little while. My hemoglobin went from 8.5. in Feb to almost an 18 in Oct. Yay!

Jan, I'm glad you started this thread as I'm dealing with the same thing and wanted to ask if a hysterectomy affected the thyroid and, if so, how.

I never tested positive for hypo-thyroid but my sis was hyper- and my mom runs the gamut between both so I've always been tested. This year my new gyno tested my antibodies instead of running the same old test all the other docs run and those came back through the roof. He put me on the lowest possible dose of synthroid, which has helped me tremendously.

The thyroid can cause miscarriages as well as heavy bleeding during periods so I'm sure it somehow affects or is affected by the ovaries.

I'm eager to see what others say about this.---Oops! I see I completely missed the 2nd page of this thread. Sorry for being such a newbie!
