Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH (tubes stay)?
Until about 7 years ago when all of this started I never had any issues with PMS.
Now I get so TIRED all I want to do is sleep. Breasts are so sore.
I am severely anemic right now so I am guessing that the fatigue will lessen as my iron and red blood cell values go up after surgery ..
What about sugar cravings? This may sound strange but I am 'addicted' to candies as the sugar gives me a bit of a boost.

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
I don't know about your PMS symptoms getting better after surgery, but since you are anemic, the way your feeling with being hungry sounds the same way I get when I have a low blood count too. I don't crave sugar type food, but feel so much better when I eat healthy foods like fruit or salad. Have you tried taking an iron pill everyday. On the days when I'm bleeding heavy, I take a 65 mg iron pill, and it seems to help.

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
I have been taking 300 mg of iron for the past 10 months with almost no improvement to my blood work. At least they can find traces of iron now where before they could not.
My gyno said even so there is not much improvement in my blood work I would collapse if I stopped taking the iron.
I grave apples too - eat them by the bushel. :-)

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
I still feel the PMS symptoms and I don't mind. Regarding anemia, take only warm showers after surgery. I lost 800cc of blood during surgery on top of being anaemic. After my first shower, I thought that I was having a heart attack or that I had a blood clot that they warn you about post surgery, weak legs, light headed and sweating profusely. The hot water constricted my blood vessels causing the dizziness and then panic set in prompting me to call 911.
This happened for 2 weeks every time I took a shower. Weeks later at an MD appt with my GP, I told her what happened and she explained it to me. The surgeons don't tell you these things.
Good luck.

That's good to know about not taking hot showers - thanks for sharing.

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
I had severe anemia (period induced). I am still taking iron post op but feel SO much better! Before it was like taking 2 steps forward, 1 step back each period! Now just steps forward!
Sugar cravings. Big topic. But anemia is a factor. Your body is craving energy and simple carbs are the easiest way. Try protein and complex carb instead. Like peanut butter on an apple slice. Or homous and raw veggies. the combination of the protein and complex carb will stabilize your blood sugar and reduce the cravings.
I do find my PMS symptoms post op have gotten better (one monthly cycle has gone by since). Just some moodiness. But I warned the family lol!
Good luck hon, each day gets better!

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
Sophima
My PMS remained unchanged following my hysterectomy which I expected, to be honest, since the ovaries are responsible for producing the hormones that cause PMS.
I think things were a little improved in the months immediately after surgery, but that was probably due to my ovaries being a little sleepy due to the trauma of surgery. It didn't take them long to return to their old selves. I didn't mind the only too familiar PMS since it was an indicator that they were still functioning as before!
I hope you feel much better, though, when anaemia is no longer a factor. Best wishes and positive thoughts!

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
My surgeon said I will probably still have PMS symptoms. Which makes sense because I kept my ovaries. He did say I may see a little improvement in PMS...some women do. I'm ok with that because what used to happen *after* PMS will never happen again

Re: Will PMS symptoms lessen after SAH?
I know my other half was hoping that with periods out the window pms went right with it. lol
I am hoping it will at least be better because PMS for me is HORRIBLE. i am teary eyed, moody, emotional, wacky, unpredictable.
