TAH 3 weeks post hysterectomy: How long did you take stool softner?

I'm 2.5 weeks post op total ab Hysterectomy and must say the gas pains and constipation are still a huge problem. I had ibs w/constipation before surgery. just wondering if the other ibs sufferers have ever tried AMITIZA? Its a pill I take everyday for my condition and i have a BM everyday or everyother day. The pill is much more predictable relief than anything else I've ever tried. Since surgery it's taking a little while to get back to the effectiveness it had before. Maybe it will help some of you suffering. Hugs to all

I'm at 3 weeks and I'm still taking them once a day I forgot once and it hurt so I'm sticking to them for now

7 weeks today, still taking them. 1 in the morning, 1 at night.

I stopped taking them at 3 weeks when I was able to go regular without straining. But I still take metamucil every other night just to make sure.

I am 3 weeks post-op and still taking. My dr said it is fine to take OTC stool softener as I have always had trouble and at my next appointment, she is going to reefer me to a GI specialist for IBS. I pray we all get back to some sort of "new" normal.

Even though I am not the OP, I was wondering the same thing. I'm also dealing with hemorrhoids which have really flared up making it even more painful in the bathroom. Good to know I'm not experiencing anything out of the ordinary.

I'm still taking the stool softeners and laxatives and I'm almost five weeks out. I was pretty regular before the surgery. I can go normally but it takes awhile. I usually take them over the weekend to clean myself out. I'm hoping to get back to normal one day! Its so frustrating not being able to go.
