Estradiol Pill - When to take?
I just got off the Vivelle Dot .1 (because of hot flashes, no sleep, etc) and now I'm on the Estradiol Pill 2mg. All the bottle said on it was to take a pill once a day.
I've been on it 2 days and I've taken it in the morning. My night hot flashes are worse than ever. I'm so tired of not being able to sleep. Thank goodness I'm not working right now (recently laid off) or else I don't think I could hold a job.
I do workout a lot during the day and drink a lot of water. If I take the pill in the morning, could I be sweating out the pill before bedtime and that's why it's not working?
I'm going to try taking it in the evenings and see what that does. The pill is so tiny that I can't imagine splitting it.
This trying to find the correct pill/patch/dosage/ sucks!

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Are you sure it won't split with a pill splitter? I've had to split some pretty tiny pills but done it successfully with one of those with a nice sharp razor blade in it.
It sounds like you are burning through your estrogen during the day and running low by nighttime. Taking it at night might get rid of the night sweats but leave you with hot flashes in midday to afternoon.
The other alternative might be to ask your DR to switch you to two 1mg pills per day.
Did you ever try using more than one Vivelle dot? Or, if you were wearing it on your abdomen, did you try switching it to your backside? Some women, particularly those who are young, thin and active, tend to need more estrogen than others. We do have women here who are using more than one patch at a time.

Estradiol Pill - When to take?
Thanks Linda for the suggestions. Oh, how I wished I hadn't had the hysterectomy. I felt better before.
I did try wearing more than one of the patches. Nothing worked. I'm going to even try taking 2 pills of 1 1/2 pills. I am very active. I wish something would takes these flashes away. I wouldn't mind them as much during the day because at least I could sleep at night. Whoa is me. Poor me.
Thanks again. :-)

Estradiol
Hi--I'm about your age--47. I take a .5 estradiol tablet (generic Estrace) that has a line down the middle. It is easy to split with a pill splitter or a pair of scissors. My doctor told me to take the pill whenever it was convenient; however, she felt morning was best. (She didn't say why, and I didn't ask. I always forget half my questions when I'm sitting in front of her. Need to write things down...) I have split the pill and taken half in the morning and half in the evening, which worked well when I remembered to take it twice a day. I did this as an experiment, but I feel best taking the whole thing in the morning.
Hope you feel better soon...

I think splitting your dose is a great idea. For me, oral estrogen can energize me to the point of disrupting my sleep - so you might want to watch for that. The way it works for me is - too little estrogen, and I can drop off to sleep just fine, only to awaken abruptly shortly after and off and on ALL night. Too much, and I have a devil of a time falling asleep. It's a nuance of insomnia worth paying attention to. I assume it can be the same for others - because it was my doctor that pointed this out to me. Even with a patch change, I take care not to put a new one one late in the day - and I would not want to take oral estrogen too close to bedtime, either.
Now here's something else to think about - how about taking both a pill and the patch? I combined oral and transdermal estrogen for a while and it did keep me very even. You just take a portion of your total goal in each. You decide the proportion. Just an idea. As always, your mileage may vary

Estradiol Pill - When to take?
Thanks everyone. I did sleep great last night, but in a fog this morning. I had to take 2 benedryls to help me fall asleep, but I hate to have to do that for sleep each night.
I'll just keep changing times I take my pills and split it and everything else until I get this figured out. Hopefully it won't take another 6 months of trial and error.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I can sure use them. :-)

Estradiol Pill - When to take?
I'm using Estradiol(generic) 2mg tab twice daily(was on once daily at bedtime -but hot flashes/night sweats were so bad he increased the dose). I can just break the pill in half without any problems-and they dissolve in my mouth. Not sure what brand your using and my instructions on the bottle are to take as needed. I take one in Am and then one in PM. I guess it depends on what your doc thinks is best for you. Best of luck!

Estradiol Pill - When to take?
Lori,
Are you taking 2 mg in the morning and 2mg at night or are you splitting one 2 mg pill and taking 1 mg in the morning and 1mg at night? I was unsure because you said your doctor increased your dosage.
Thanks.
So far I've tried taking it in the morning and in the evening. I still have problems. I hadn't tried splitting it yet.
It's been almost a week this Sunday since I've switched over from the Vivelle Dot to the Estradiol. Does it take awhile to get in my system or should it be doing it's thing by now?

Estradiol Pill - When to take?
Hi-I take a 2mg tab (one in AM & one in the PM)-It worked for me right away. I would give your doc a call-maybe you need to increase your dose? I haven't had any symptoms so far(hope I don't)being whipped into menopause sucks!!!!and then trying to figure out HRT is worse-some of the posts I've read say that it can take several mths for your body to adjust-yuck!Good luck and keep us posted.

Estradiol Pill - When to take?
Thanks Lori. I'll try the splitting for a few days and if that works, I might just try for a few days and do like you do and see what happens. Maybe I too need to increase mine.
It seems like my most problem time is in bed at night with the flashes and hard time sleeping.
Thanks again for the help. :-)
