Pre op Tests

Well, I had all my pre op test this morning. I had myself ready for long waits at the offices. Boy was I surprised! It took about a half an hour at the lab for the bloodwork and urine test (I hate those little cups) and then when I went to the medical plaza next to the hospital for the chest xray and ekg that only took a half an hour also. They even preregistered me for the surgery so when I get to the hospital the morning of the surgery I won't have to do all that paperwork.

The bloodtest was the worst, I have very deep veins and don't give up my blood easily, she had a little bit of a hard time finding the vein but I told her where the nurse at my family dr said to find it and then she had no trouble except when she went for the 3rd vile of blood the needle must have slipped out of the vein and she had to wiggle the needle around till she found it again OUCH!
It bled more after she was done, the cotton ball was a mess when I got home and had to change the bandage, I've never had that happen before and hopefully never again.

My pre op appointment with my dr. isn't till next week the 11th so I have more waiting to do. This is awful. Having the tests done has made this so much more real!

Any suggestions on keeping my mind off this for the next week? I have books to read but I'm too nervous to sit still. I don't want to clean yet because with my dh, 3 teenagers, a dog and a cat, they would just make messes and I'd have to clean again. I thought about going to the mall but I have to save my money to pay deductibles and co-payments so I would just get depressed if I found something I would want and I couldn't buy it. I do have the computer but only after the kids have had their turn on it first.

Some LIW have talked about a calm that came over them before surgery, I wish it would come to me just for an hour or so.

Pre op Tests

Awww..
Im glad your pre-op went fairly well without much trouble. I hope you feel calm soon too.
I am experiencing the calm right now. My mother said its "the calm before the storm". Nice thought huh? lol My surgery is in 5 days and I havent thought much about it lately.

Hopefully you will feel not so nervous very soon

Pre op Tests

Hi

I'm glad the pre op tests went fairly well. I, too, have the vein problem. Once it took them 13 sticks to get blood. It is frustrating!

I think you should take some calming, easy walks - maybe with the dog? Spend a little time getting your resting area when you get home ready with the things you'll need. By the Way, here are a couple of links for some ideas for that:

You could also do something just for you - something special. Here are some ideas:

Hope this helps you a little bit

Sending you a big

Pre op Tests

Thanks for the links.

The calm walk sounds good but the dog can't come because then it would be anything but a calm walk. He is a small dog but boy can he pull on the lease! He thinks we would be going to my mother's (she lives 3 blocks away from me) to see her dog.

Maybe one of my dds would go with me, I'll try it when things get really unbearable and it isn't so hot outside.
