love this place!
I have been reading alot of the posts here, pre and post op. So glad to read about woman who have actually had a hyster. No one believes me when the dr says i'll be out of work 6-8 weeks. They act like i'm having my tonsils out. People who have not had a hyster have no idea how bad the recovery is.
Thank god i found this board ....some of the things i've read scare me.....but, i don't think i will be too suprised now.
It's nice to know that you are all here.
This six weeks till my surgery are going to be the longest 6 weeks of my life. I also think i'm going to need more help with my cats after surgery. I need to start planning more.

Hi Kat,
Glad you are finding us so helpful -- it does make a difference when you have an idea what to expect - the good and the not so good!
I'm glad you've read enough to understand where you're going to need help and organizing.

just wondering....
hi kat,
just wondering if you needed a doctors note to be out 4-6wks...to show your employer?
my employer thinks that 2wks is sufficient.
my work is not that physical. the registration nurse said 4-6 wkks too. but i am feeling at odds about whether i can go back at 2 wks....maybe 3, but will try after 2wks.
my co-worker was out only 2wks too, for her lavh, which is what i am having w/ all out. my employer has gone beyond and above for me so many times, before i knew what was ailing me.
i agree w/ you about this place......simply wonderful!!!

did you or are you going to have a vaginal or invassive hyster? I had a neighbor tell me her friend was only out of work 3 weeks. my job will pay me for up to 13 weeks. I am not going to push going back to work. I also found out that one of our hospitals offers a what to expect form your hyster classs for free. I will be going to that too.
The main reason i'm here is cuz I wanna know from someone who has gone thru it......no 2nd hand stuff.

hi
mine will be a vaginal hyster w/ a camera for total removal tubes and ovaries and to remove endometriosis on 4/15.
even tho the registration nurse said 4-6wks major surgery......the person i know of, had the same and was out for 2wks only.
so, i was thinking that i might need to ask for a dr. release for the employer?
i have about 3wks of fml left and one weeks pay. i have used all vacation except the one week and no sick time. lucky, however, it is right down to the wire of not having any finances left.
i have money put away for the deductible too.
my sitution has been quite a long one and financially draining.
so, i am trying to plan ahead for what i can do.
i think the hyster class sounds very informative. i don't know if mine has. will check on.
thank you for your thoughts on and feedback. mecelena

my short term disability will pay for up to 13 weeks-60% of my pay. We just had an update on our insurance I am going to pay the extra for a $300 deductible. I am single and recently filed for bankruptcy. It's tough to have major surgery.

i can empathize...
somewhere in the last years fog, i missed out on signing up for the short term disability...just made it in w/ the new insurance forms.....company switched last summer to a cafeteria plan
and i almost didn't know...can't tell you how that happened.
so good that you have a safety net in place.
i recently started thinking about bankruptcy or second mortgage. knnow the laws are going to change soon and have to have enough to file.....but have just enough for the deductible.
i weighed my and / my husbands options...very limited now, we are checking into second mortgage now, w/ someone we know and trust.
the funny thing is, i never expected to find out what the problem was w/ health and had come to terms w/ that. was resigned to never going to another doctor. and then - bam - here i am.
i am so happy that once past the surgery, i have a chance to get my life back. and maybe, just maybe pay down our debt before i am 65yrs and i will be ok with that as long as i have my health.
it is truly a blessing that you have time w/ pay. thank you once again and i won't forget to check out any hyster classes.
i'm learning so much from you all.
