Overwhelmed and 5 weeks

Today is a emotionally draining day. Received TAH during c-section (kept ovaries). I am sooo sad. I can't believe my ordeal. I have not had sex in 7 months (placental previa). Next week is my 6 week follow up and I am nervous. My husband has been having mood swings. He knows my uterus was removed, but not my cervix.
Will my sex life be different? Will he hate sex after all that has happened to me? Will my belly ever go back? Will I ever look at myself in the mirror and not cry when I look at my scar? Will the pain ever stop? I have always loved being a woman, but gosh it is hard work.

31 yrs TAH (kept ovaries)

(((perlita)))

I am so sorry you had to have what sounds like an unexpected surgery after a high risk pregnancy. With what your body has gone through it is perfectly normal for you to feel emotional and sad right now.

Many of us find that our sex life is completely fine after our hysterctomy and our DH's don't notice any difference at all! So try not to worry about that!

Your body should heal and with time the swelling should resolve. Pregnancy itself though can create changes to the abdomen. After both my pregnancies and hysterectomy (LAVH) my abdomen went right back to what it has always looked like however with a couple scars on my hips from my hysterectomy. You may want to talk to your doctor about how to help your scar heal well. Over time the scar should fade quite a bit. And your physical should improve as you continue heal. Emotional pain can last a bit longer, especially if your hormones take awhile to adjust.

You might find talking to your doctor about how you feel helpful. For one, your doctor can offer you advice on feeling better physically. Second, your doctor may also be able to refer you to a counselor who can help you work through your feelings. A hysterectomy is a major surgery that can do a number on our emotions so you are not alone!

I would also suggest sitting down and talking to your DH about how you are feeling. You may find he is worried about you which is part of his mood swing issues. It can be hard for our spouses to watch us suffer!

I wish you all the best over the coming days! Remember you only have to take one day at a time! Sending lots of s your way and a little , too!

Perlita, I am so glad you have found support on this site, without it I would be a mess.
Give yourself time to adjust, I am sure your DH would love for you to sit down and spill out all your feelings. Guys are wonderful but sometimes the reason for their moods is because of them feeling helpless at what we are going through. They cant read our minds (otherwise think how happy we would be all the time )
You will be the same woman, infact you still are sweetie, you are still the very same woman as before, you just need more healing time, emotionally and physically. I cant imagine going through a TAH and having a newborn to care for as well. Dont forget about post partum, it could play a huge part in your emotions as well.

Take care of yourself, think positive, coming from a woman who has had 4 babies, your body will go back to normal. Sometimes it takes a bit of work, but be patient. I plan on excercising in January after healing from my TVH, as I still carry 10lbs of baby weight on my body!
