TAH: Upcoming hysterectomy: When can I work (play saxophone) again?

So thankful to find this site. I wonder if anyone has experience playing a woodwind instrument after a hysterectomy? I am a freelance musician, and make my living solely on playing gigs and teaching private music lessons. I was disappointed to find out today that I am not a candidate for minimally invasive surgery, due to the size of my uterus. I expect that my recovery time will be 6 weeks, before I can even pick up my instruments and play/teach. Any insight is welcome, and thank you so much! I have been waiting to have this surgery for over a year.

You will play again.... it is just a matter of how long you need to heal.

We have had other musicians some through here, as well as vocalists, opera singers, etc. The big issue is getting enough air to do your music. Your abdominal muscles will need much healing to support your diaphragm to support your notes.

Talk to your doctor to see how much time you need.
