New member needs encouragement - 3 days post hysterectomy and in pain

I had radical hysterectomy Tuesday, Nov. 8th due to a uterine cancer diagnosis. The surgeon also took 30 lymph nodes. He said he couldn't stage the cancer until next week. Anyway, it has been 3 days and I am in quite a lot of pain. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hopefully you were given pain meds. Most Sisters have both narcotics and an anti-inflammatory post op, many of us stick with them for a week or two, and the guidance you'll find here is to stay on schedule with both. It helps you stay ahead of/on top of the pain; if it gets the better of you, it's harder to get back under control. It's okay not to be a hero considering how many internal incisions we had. Many Sisters find relief with ice packs, I used them a few times early on (frozen peas or corn work great ).

If you are on schedule with them, it could be that the meds prescribed to you aren't effective. If oxycontin isn't doing it for you, oxycodone might. Take a look at the Pain guide here to put what you're feeling into words, and give your doctor's office a call.

Please don't delay in contacting your dr. The type of procedure you had warrants good pain management.. and if you are at an 8 something is not right. Use the ice, a pillow to stabilize your belly. And don't delay in calling the on call DR today.

As cussette said, stay on top of the meds.. everyone is different, but the combination of oxycodone and advil was perfect for me, so long as I took it on( or slightly before) schedule.
