Catheter irritating my perineum

I am on day 5 following a robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy (took cervix. left ovaries). During the surgery my bladder was nicked and so I came home with a catheter that I can take out in two days (can you tell I'm counting?!).

I am having increasing difficulting getting that little catheter tubing to sit in a comfortable place down there. I am still wearing the stretchy panties and a thin maxi pad, so I don't know if that is too tight and contributing to the irritation. I cannot sit for very long because it hurts too much.

I took a mirror and checked the area after my last shower . . . did not see any redness or swelling to indicate an infection.

I'm wondering if anyone has any hot tips on how to navigate the tubing to make it comfortable to live with. I've tried looping it upward toward my pubic bone and then out to where it's taped to my leg. I've also tried looping downward toward my vagina, and also off to the side. Nothing seems to be helping and I am feeling so frustrated and ready to cry.

Thanks.

Re: Catheter irritating my perineum

hmm, maybe remove the tape? I had a catheter for one week at home as well. Mine wasn't taped to my leg, but I had a leg bag for during the day and a big overnight bag for nighttime. When I had the leg bag on I put the tube through the side of my underwear. But at night I had the tube go out through the top of my underwear. Kind of hard to describe! The catheter annoyed me, and I found it really hard to get comfortable and relax enough to have a bowel movement, but I had no pain thankfully... Hope that helps!
