silly question

I am going to have a vertical incision with a likely TAH/BSO. How long is the incision? That is the one vain question I have, and I forgot to ask my doctor!
Just curious...

I was told it could run from hip bone to hip bone. Most likely it would be 6inches in length.
Best wishes for your upcoming surgery and I hope that helped.

Thanks Itty, but that sounds like a horizontal one. I just wondered because I read somewhere, from "below the ribcage to the pelvis" - and that sounds HUGE!

Ohhh my bad!! I have seen the one that my grandma has and its from the bottom of her belly button down to her pelvis. I am not sure how long it is...but it didn't look bad.
Sorry I misunderstood.

silly question

Hi!
My vertical incision for both of my c-sections was from just below my bellly button to the pelvis. My TAH on July 30th will be through to the same site. My scar looks great, my stretch marks are more noticeable than my scar. lol

Best of luck to you!

The dreaded scar

I have had 2 surgeries that required the vertical cut (removal of one ovary and removal of cysts). It is from my belly button all the way down. My third surgery (hysterectomy) will take the same route and my doctor said she would even try to tidy the scar up! It really isn't bad looking. I was self conscious the first time, but not anymore.

silly question

At my surgery consult with the dr, I left without asking what kind of incision he would be making. I am a worry wort. So... I called the drs office and the nurse asked the dr and told me mine would be horizontal.

I suggest that you call and ask just to put your mind at ease. No question is a silly question especially when it comes to your peace of mind.
