Helpful tip if you get nausea from surgery or motion sickness (divinci)

Hello, I wanted to pass along a helpful tip for those of you getting ready for surgery.

In 2000, I had my gall bladder removed. Post surgery I had alot of shoulder pain from gas leaving the body and was very nauseated / throwing up for sometime afterwards. Nothing worse than throwing up with a very sore belly.

I had a divinci hysterectomy on Dec 7th. This time the pre op nurse asked me if I get motion sickness (which I do) and I said yes and told her about the gall bladder experience. She said to make sure to tell the anesthesiologist that I get motion sickness before surgery. When I talked with her, she said they would give me three meds to help with nausea. I don't know if they always do this or if they give you more if you discuss it with them first.

Post surgery I have not had any nausea or shoulder pain. This is day four. I generally feel pretty good. I had the surgery for fibriods but once they got in there they found pretty bad endometriosis as well. So glad I had the surgery. I had been going to a family doctor and trying to control the bleeding and pain using the depo provera shot which wasn't working. This has been going on for years and just kept getting worse. Friends and family urged me to get a second opinion. So glad I did. I still have some bloating, gas pain, and soreness but somehow I think I feel better than before the surgery already. I guess I didn't know how bad I felt. Make sure to take it easy after the surgery. I think I did too much yesterday and was pretty sore at bedtime. Today I will be taking it easy.

I hope this tip helps you. If you are considering surgery, I would definitely recommend the divinci. Make sure to get a good doctor. You will be so glad you did this for yourself. Best of luck! Michelle
