Lupron injection tomorrow... Update!

Did you have to pick up the injection kit at the pharmacy and take it in? I saw that needle and was like o crap!

That all being said, I didn't even feel it. It stoped my periods (so I didn't have one the days before surgery without being able to take anything) and about 2 weeks in, I was 99% pain free (for me that's why I was pretty sure I had Endo). The first couple days were like a rush, I had soooooo much energy. And then I went through a couple days with queasiness (not real bad) that scared me. I was queasy with swollen breasts and was like 'now? now I get pregnant? After 16 years of trying now?' BUT I wasn't and that was just the Lupron purging the estrogen.

It'll be ok.

Lupron injection tomorrow... Update!

It'll be fine, honestly. I'd do it again without a second thought.

Lupron injection tomorrow... Update!

I had 1 lupron injection before trying the hysterectomy and the injection itself was easy as could be. However, I had some major hormonal reactions to it.....terrible mood swings with hours of sobbing ( and I'm not a cryer), hot flashes, depression within 3 days of having the shot. I also had terrible stomach cramping and diarreah the day that I had it. I went back to my gyn. and she gave me norethrindone to help counter some of those side affects, but I decided to go through with the hysterectomy anyway because I did not feel like I was in a position to experiment with Lupron when I reacted so adversely to it.
My doc. says she has many patients though who after 2 weeks with Lupron have no more pain at all. So.... it does work for many! If you try it and have problems though.... ask your doc. for something to counter the side affects.
Good Luck to You!

not all that bad

I had a lupron injection about a month prior to having an ablation completed. The idea was to thin the walls in preparation and as an added bonus I wouldn't get my period... well.... the ablation went VERY well, but I did get my period about 3 days BEFORE the procedure (much lighter than usual though) and here I am three and a half years later with a TAH scheduled for next Thursday. I don't know why you're getting the lupron, but the shot itself isn't all that bad. I DID have major hot flashes for about a month afterward but no other bad side effects, and the hot flashes were something I kind of prepared for. If you're doing the shot yourself maybe have a friend with you... but where I live you HAVE to have a medical professional do it. It may sound scary but my own experience was that it wasn't as bad as I'd expected, and definitely had a positive effect. Best of luck!

Lupron injection tomorrow... Update!

I am so interested in your reaction as well, I am having my first shot next week! I understand your concerns, and I am hoping I am worrying for nothing!! I have been diagnosed with fibroids "too numerous to count". I have had a few years of horrible periods, with the last 4-5 months worse than ever. I was on the pill to alleviate some symptoms, but the last few months, that hasn't even worked.
I am anxious to hear of your experience with the Lupron!! good luck!

Thank you for responding. I need to try my best to tough out the side effects, cuz this fibroid and my uterus needs to be shrunk so I can do the lap. I do NOT want another abdominal scar if I can avoid it.

Lupron injection tomorrow... Update!

I am having the Lupron to shrink my fibroid and my uterus so I can have a laparoscopic hysterectomy in June. The nurse did the injection. Hurt like heck. Have my belly band on though!
