LAVH: Belly Binders??

I bought a belly binder, not knowing if I was really going to need it or not......are they really helpful ?

I was wonder if I need to get one too with having di Vinci done?

You will find many helpful opinions here regarding the belly binder. Myself, I did not use one, my swelly belly is almost gone and feeling well.

I had TAH/BSO, and use the belly binder non stop. I think it depends on the type of surgery you have as to whether or not you need one. I would suggest asking your DR. I did, and she gave me one so I didn't have to buy one.

i find that they are for getting out of bed. my hospital provided mine. pretty sure they billed me, though. :lol

I had TAH 9 days ago. I woke up in recovery with the binder.I've worn it almost non stop since, but irritates and made welts/rash so have left it off most the last 2 days. A piece of fabric can be put next to your skin if it irritates. For me it's probably from the elastic area (latex allergy). They advised me to keep a fresh sanitary pad against my incision area and the binder helps keep it in place.

An abdominal binder offers support for the abdomen during recovery. Some dr's even give their patients one in the hospital. For some women they can't stand having anything around their stomach after this surgery. For me, I absolutely could not stand the jiggle of my belly when I walked. I had a DvTH and I'm not overweight so it wasn't that. Just when I woke up my belly was bigger and jiggled. I ordered one from the hystersisters store when I was 3 days post op. For me it worked and was my friend for car rides especially. I found that I didn't need it closer to 4 or 5 wks except when I was in the car. When I went back to work at 7 wks, I used it for added support because sitting in my chair all day was not comfortable.

I didn't get a belly binder but I do have some support panties that I wore the one of the first days. I plan on wearing them the first period of time back to work to help keep things in place for the long days.

When I woke up from surgery I had one on. I liked it too. But after 2 or 3 days I took it off for good, because I had gas bubbles stuck at the edges of it under my skin.

Have been researching these this evening. Am having TAH/BSO and have the question on my list ready for my pre-op on Wednesday and if it is included in the medical care package or if I need to buy one. Having done the research, there are many pro's to using one I think.
