My Dad had a stroke...postponing a month
Hello,
I was debating post phoning my surgery so my GP could assist and be in the OR with me. He knows me very well, understands my lung issues, and would make the best decisions for me. He is away for 2 weeks. My original surgery date was for today. Then rescheduled for the 16th. Now looks like April 13th if the date still available. Of course my surgeons office is closed until Thurs so can't even finalize anything. Prepping as if surgery next Mon but too scared for my Dad right now.
My Dad has to have stents out in both carotid arteries. They're blocked 90% and 60%. He's a time bomb. They may have to do something to his heart too. The Neuro Opthalmologist thinks there may be something wrong in the arteries in the back of his brain too b/c his vision is blurry and double vision. Going in for surgery myself and knowing I can't drive to him even is too stressful for me. Not sure if he'll pull through or not.
I've had a very long upsetting weekend due to surgery and then my Dad. I cannot believe how much I'm struggling. On eggshells for now with nothing definite.

Re: My Dad had a stroke...postponing a month
Sorry to hear about your dad. I went through something similar with my dad. He had to have surgery on his neck & the dr is keeping a check on the other side because he will eventually have to have surgery on it as well. You & your family are in my prayers

Re: My Dad had a stroke...postponing a month
Thank you his_butterfly. Definitely puts you on edge. The drs at the hospital want me to go through with my surgery as it's having a big affect in me. I'm the only one who can help my Dad though. My twin has Dystonia and had Deep Brain Stimulation surgery which helps some but she got t-boned and broke her pelvis in 3 places. Just walking now with no supports. Can't drive. In constant severe pain. Suffers PTSD and Anxiety now so doesn't go out barely. My one brother is a Paranoid Schizophrenic and not useful. My oldest brother works a ton, gets faint in hospitals and has a long history with my Dad. They tolerate each other now. So that leaves me. I won't even mention the other responsibilities I have. Lol. After my poor health in Dec-Feb and and hospitalization in Jan I promised myself that my health came first. Now this! Not much choice here. My hubby is a Chiropractor so can't stay home and works a lot so he can't be driving me 45 mins to the hospital where my Dad is and picking me up and that's only when I'd be able to tolerate sitting and standing for long periods. Hating this.

I can only imagine all the stress you must be under. It's got to be hard going through all of that. God bless you & keep you in his loving arms.

Debetable70,
I'm glad that you're waiting on your GP to help assist in your surgery. I read your previous post and take much comfort knowing he will be with you. This will give you a peace of mind as well.
It's hard watching our love ones hurt and I will be praying that God gives him a speedy recovery. I also pray that God will give you a peace that surpasses all understanding. You have a lot on your plate. I also want you to remember that your health is just as important. Be Bless

Re: My Dad had a stroke...postponing a month
Thank you ladies. It's been a bumpy ride. One minute I'm fine and the next I'm a mess. All I think about is my surgery and my Dad. The rest is being task oriented. One day this will all be behind me and all be for the best. One step at a time.

So sorry about your father. I have just been through a similar episode with my father and know how stressful it is. Hope he is doing better, and am glad that you feel good with your decision to postpone your surgery.

His_butterfly and coughy16- all the best to your fathers. Sounds like they are doing well now but their problems were recent as well. Hugs to you both

Surgery officially bumped
Instead of surgery only 4 days away, it's now 1 month and 1 day away on April 13. Another month to stress out. My Dad had a stent put into his carotid artery today so his risk of a massive stroke now decreased. Apparently he's had multiple small strokes and never knew. His burry eyes with double vision were strokes. His right carotid was completely blocked just before entering the brain. He must have horseshoes you know where b/c he shouldn't be alive. They've bought him time now. How much? Who knows. He may come stay with me for a few days if they release him soon. I may just loose my mind. All I think about is my surgery.
