3 weeks post hysterectomy: Worried / Vaginal Cuff Pains

I think Im over reacting to every little ache and pain but I'm so scared of my vaginal cuff tearing or injury.

I was putting my pants on after taking a shower and started to fall over sideways, but caught myself with my foot on the side of the bath tub. I immediately had a dull achy pain in my vagina/vaginal cuff. I am not bleeding and dont think I did any damage but Ive been realizing more aches and pains in that area the past several days? I am 3 weeks post op and read that the nerves may be waking back up in that area?

Other than that I havent had any noticeable pains except the occasional pain in my abdominal incisions

Re: Worried / Vaginal Cuff Pains

I have had some dull achey pains like you describe, especially after walking a distance or overdoing things. They get better after rest. I have also heard that as things start knitting back together they hurt a little more. I take Motrin when things are bad enough, it helps with inflammation.

Re: Worried / Vaginal Cuff Pains

Hello there!

Even being at the point you are at, that slight tip over and the aches/pains is your body's way of telling you . Rest up.
Take any pain relievers if you need them.
Definately keep your doctor informed if things continue.

Feel better soon!

Hi leahnicole,

You likely have "pulled" or "strained" the area of your vaginal cuff but based on your symptoms, you probably have not done serious damage. Put your feet up and rest, don't lift or do anything strenuous for a couple days. If it doesn't improve or if you begin bleeding bright red, have a gush of watery discharge, or have worsening pain definitely call your doctor. Here is an article on vaginal cuff tears, and it includes symptoms to watch for:

Vaginal Cuff Tear

I know it's hard, but try not to worry. A little TLC and hopefully you'll feel much better!
