The best and the worst
6 days post-op for me
WORST part - gas pains (although they're gone now)
BEST part - I'm not bleeding at all. I've gone two days with no pad and it's great!!!!!

My 2 cents
Hello. As I was not having any pain before my radical TAH, I may have a different perspective. I also stayed in the hospital for 6 days.
WORST
- the gas - oh it was not fun for awhile, I didn't even want to eat the broth and DH had to yell at me to get me to eat.
- being stuck with a catheter for a month!!!!!!!
- FEAR as I didn't know what I was going to wake up to
- heartburn from late evening antibiotic pill (be sure to ask for crackers or something to eat with any pills they have you take
- Noise of the nurses station (always have them shut the door at night
BEST
- A few of the nurses and aids were great
- learning that the surgery got everything and I would not be needing chemo or radiation!!!!!!!
- A very nice roommate who was very accommodating by letting me leave the TV on all night!
It's nothing I would ever do again, but now that I'm almost a year out, it wasn't as bad as I expected.
Hope all goes well for you at the

The best and the worst
The worst part is the waiting beforehand. i was actually very calm once i got to the hospital. It was fun getting ready for my recovery, because I hardly ever spoil myself. I got good books and taped some TV shows I wanted to watch. after the surgey the worst part was these awful white stockings I had to wear so I wouldn't get blood clots. The best part was not having to work, and not feeling guilty about that. Also, I LOVE not having a period and all the problems that go with that.

The best and the worst
I think one of the moments that could have been the worst, was waiting just outside the operating room, listening to the View where they had woman on who had awakened during surgery and could not let anyone know they were awake. An anistesiologist was there and started explaining to me the circumstances, usually after an accident when badly injured, when this could happen, assured me that this would not happen. My girlfriend, who was way more nervous than me, was yelling to shut off the tv, the whole thing is laughable now. Just before moving to this waiting area I had done this tapping technique I had seen on tv to relax myself. Just tapped about 20 times on cheekbone, wrist, side of hand. As dumb as this sounds, I was totally calm and walked into the operating room, was asked to centre myself on the table. I even said, "you mean equal parts of my body hanging off either side." No one laughed, they just said, yes......... Ask for pain meds, take a watch and ask for it as soon as you are permitted even if you think you are okay, at least first 2 days, then it is a bit easier every day. Also I took a body pillow with me, so comfortable, life saver for comfort. Now, so happy I have no cramps, had constant cramps for years, crazy eh. If I can say one last thing, Stool Softeners, or prunes. I worried about all this, took 4 days but it all started up again without a problem.

The best and the worst
the worst part for me was the morphine didn't work so they had to switch it to diludid (sp?) which was wonderful and the other bad part was a liquid diet that day (broth, jello, juices, etc).
The best part was the hospital staff! They were really wonderful and responded to me very quickly!
