pre cancerous cells (atopia) reason for 12/10 hysterectomy
Has someone been told of this diagnosis? I've had two physician opinions (OBGYN and OBGYN surgeon) and two pathologists have weighed in on the analysis of biopsies obtained from a D&C. Not sure whether or not ovaries have to go, but surgeon will have an oncologist with him and will send uterus to pathology to see if they have to go further.
Does anyone have experience with this procedure? Is it the norm?
Thanks so much.

My situation was not the same as yours and so I don't have anything to say but I wanted to send you some so that you know you are not alone.

Hey there,
My TVH is being done 12/8 for pre cancerous cells that keep coming back, but mine is severe dysplasia. Not sure if it's standard, but the Dr. gave me the option since it kept coming back.

It doesn't sound like you have talked to a gynecological oncologist. You may find that helpful since they are knowledgeable about both the female reproductive systems and cancer of the reproductive system.
You should know that there are times when complex hyperplasia with atypia is determined to be cancer after the hysterectomy.
Since there is the concern of cancer and they may be estrogen fed many surgeons do remove the ovaries but that isn't a total given anymore.
I would highly recommend that you speak with a gynecological oncologist. Also you may want to visit the Cancer Concerns forum if you have additional questions.
