Can't get the right pain relief

Does anyone have any advice? I am 4 days post op and home in bed. I was in a hospital in Chrstchurch for my op but live 5 hours away in Nelson (NZ). Had a big aftershock yesterday and just wanted out of there so flew home as soon as I could.

The problem I am having is with pain relief. The morphine made me sick, codine blocked up and sick and am now stuck with panadol and voltaren. Neither are helping me too much and just upsetting my bowels. My surgeon is too far away now to help so what can I ask my gp for that might help keep me out of pain in these early days?

Also has anyone else had issues with the would healing? I had it all done laprascopically and they have had to bind it very tight as the belly button wound keeps opening up and I keep bleeding. Now I have to stay bandaged for 3 days to give it time to heal itself. Sounds a little archaic to me.

My heart and love goes out to all my fellow sufferers xxx

Re: Can't get the right pain relief

So sorry to hear you're hurting - and having to deal with aftershocks on top of it all. Vicodin or percocet worked for me - though I have to admit that my pain level was pretty low after thle first week. If the incision areas are causing you issue, you might try icing the areas. 20 minutes every hour and make sure you have a cloth between the ice (frozen peas work great) and the skin.

Hpe you feel better soon.

Re: Can't get the right pain relief

Hey there...due to other medical issues... some common meds are off the table for me, so after my TAH I have chosen to alternate Motrin (Ibuprofin) with prescribed Oxycodon. So instead of every 3 hours of the oxy I replace the next dose with prescription strength (800mg) of Motrin. No bowels like pain meds as they tend to cause constipation.
