A helpful hint for Pre-Op Prep from someone who learned the hardway!!!

I had my surgery almost one week ago. Everything went fine and overall I'm feeling pretty good now.

However, let me save someone the misery I suffered the night before my surgery by giving some hopefully helpful advice.

Of course, never having had a TAH before and not knowing what to expect, I figured that I wouldn't be able to shave my legs for awhile after surgery. So, the night before my surgery I decided to use NAIR (4 minute formula) on my entire legs and bikini area hoping this would keep the hair away longer.

I only left it on for maybe 5 minutes. Well, I had some kind of reaction and as soon as I rinsed it off, 50% of my legs and my bottom were covered with a rash like a burn.

It really hurt like heck! I was shocked because I had never had a reaction like this before, but then again, had never done my entire legs, etc. Since it was sort of like a burn, I thought maybe if I put Cocoa Butter on it, it would soothe the burn. HUGE mistake!!! It only made matters worse! I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 5:30am. The entire night I could not sleep, and it wasn't because I was worried about the surgery. So, if you are looking for a distraction, go ahead and try this approach! However, I wouldn't recommend the pain. It was worse than most of the pain I've had since my surgery!

Anyway, everything will be fine for all of you in waiting. I was worried too but have surprised everyone, even myself, with how well I'm doing now! It is so true what everyone says, "the waiting is the hardest part!" Take care and lots of hugs to all of you!

((((Tammy))))

What a bad experience with the Nair. Geesh, makes me glad that even though I have red hair, the hairs on my legs are blonde and I haven't removed them since I was about 15 years old.

You are right about the surgery though, the waiting was definitely the worse part.

Regards and best wishes for the rest of your recovery.

Tammy, how awful ...
I used it once and had accidentally bent over ...
and when I sat into the tub, had instantly become half bald
