Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

Kept my ovaries. I thought since I could still have PMS, etc my moods would stay the same. I'm actually feeling alot better since my LSH. Not nearly as many mood swings as I had from PMDD before. It feels great.

Anyone else notice this improvement?

Re: Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

KMA,
I'm in the same place you are, but then again I'm only 15 days post op. I had one little meltdown, but generally feel great. I had been in so much pain for the past 6 months due to adenomyosis that I feel great now. That constant pain with intervals of really bad pain was taking it's toll since I usually never get sick. My recovery has been easy to this point and I hope it continues.

Re: Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

Yes, that was/is definitely the case for me too! I am over a year out now but I felt different/better hormonally even while still in the hospital! I have had mood swings for certain, I would be deluding myself if I said otherwise, but nothing like I was pre-surgery! Having those little estrogen factories/fibroids removed provided an incredible improvement in my emotional balance and life in general. I am grateful for this every day and I'm sure my DH is too!

I am so happy to hear you are both feeling better! The best is yet to come, when you feel fully recovered from major surgery!

That seems to be what's happening to me as well. Keeping my fingers crossed it continues this way.

Re: Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

I am one week out from Surg. (everything inc. ovaries out). I am 34 and thought I would have a much harder time with this. Much to my delight I've been in a much better mood since. Sure I had one mini cry spell but that was because my DH offered to shave my legs and pumice my heels and give me a peddie. Don't know how I got so lucky.

I am going to take what I get now. After so long of rollercoaster emotions it feels quite nice to be so positive.

I hope this continues for you as well!

Re: Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

I'm 7 wks out and feel better than I hasve in yrs (have had some mood swings, but they haven't lasted long) I think it has A LOT to do with not living in 'fear' ( fear of the bleeding....Fear of the pain, that was constant the last 3 months, etc)

So here's to your 'sunnier' outlook, I know I like mine

Re: Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

Ditto for me

I am not having the severe PMDD symptoms and was able to stop taking many of the medications I was taking before surgery for anxiety etc.

Hope all of you sisters continue to feel even better as you recover

Re: Anyone actually feel better emotionally after hysterectomy (LSH)

I am 6 weeks as of today. My overall outlook and mood swings are much better then before surgery. My children and husband have noticed Also helps that I no longer have Uterine Cancer, that helps the moods too!!

So good to hear! I thought it was my imagination but hearing your good stories confirms it.

I have had one day around my pms time where I felt a little "grinchy" but other than that it's been great.
