OMG..mag Citrate...yuck...
at pre-op appt. today i learned - no other prep except 'mag citrate! this stuff kills my guts....so i expressed my concern to dr. and asked if there might be a way to minimize the nasty effect i get. instead of drinking it fast and all at once....she said 'drink it
slow at 15 minute intervals......why didn't i think of that?
kinda felt dumb. but this doctor is so wonderful and informative, i didn't feel dumb for long. when she asked me if i had questions....i had forgotten the pre-op questions and my mind went blank. she began telling / explaining just about everything on the pre-op list. cool!
i took flowers to my doctor and her staff today w/ a note of big thanks. i have never thought about taking flowers to a doctor in my whole life. just seemed like the right thing to do.
the staff had fun w/ my doctor and told her it was from a boyfriend and teased her, before telling her who really from.
and then when she brought the prep in the room and saw my face, she told that i couldn't have the flowers back.
plus she said that she'd better do a good job or i would take the flowers back. so funny.
and i guess i am the new poster child for the office..before and after. they are so cool.....i had FUN at my pre-op appt. today!

Fun at pre-op -- THAT'S what I like to hear!
Seriously, I'm glad things went well for you. It always feels good to get your questions answered. I usually try to be the funny (meaning "humorous", not "strange") patient, too -- and it often helps put everyone at ease, even though this is very serious business!
My best to you.

both...
i guess i am a tad strange....which i like to think of as my eclectic attributes. if i try to be funny, i flop. mostly its all by accident.
the three women i wanted to be most like when i was a teenager;
carol burnett, mary tyler moore and cher. they all have a gift that i aspired to be like. i can't tell a joke, can't act and can't sing, but i had the long dark hair!!!
i do love making people feel at ease and if a laugh comes through, its like icing on a cake. what a pleasant day today. thanks much m

i also had the mag cit, the pleasing lemony flavor......NOT...eww.
Well, it does work, but by the time I got to the hosptial I was very sick to my tummy and weak from not eating and ended up having a migraine.
My doc said yeah it is a 'bit rough' on the stomach. Well for me it was. I'd of rather had the fleet enema.
So needless to say, by the time i got to the surgery room at 10 am i was more than willing to be knocked out.
just my 2 cents and my experience.

OMG..mag Citrate...yuck...
Looking back at my total hysterectomy experience I have to say that the worst part was that nasty mag citrate. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. For ladies who haven't used it, the taste is what's bad -- it really works quite well once it's down.

My God, that was the worst part??? I guess it'll be smooth sailing tomorrow then!!! I actually kinda liked the stuff. I could have drunk a whole bottle. Kind of like Gatorade. I was only told to take half a bottle tho.

end thought...no pun intended>>>.
i just found this post again and no wonder i cringed at the mag citrate.....gator aid! i can't drink gator aid....makes me feel so ill..gag..no wonder i can't tolerate mag citrate!
i tried to do 15 minute interval for about an hour......i was still at work and was carefully testing as the hours ticked by.
i stopped sipping on after that hour cuz of slight gagging and gas, so thought maybe it was going to work. heck, i had drank prune juice all week long, so maybe this stuff was going to work much faster.
oh no, not in my body! i stayed at work till about 7pm, drove home and finished off the bottle. nothing happened at all. by morning i was afraid that surgery would be cancelled if i wasn't cleaned out. i fretted for nothing and everything went as planned.
although the dr. did say that she had to wrestle my bowel while trying to get at my uterus. she brought me pictures, so i saw what she was up against. YIKES! wanted to post in case anyone else is worried about mag citrate not working before surgery. and i also would have preferred the enema over that gaggy citrate.m
