I think I'm having my period!! What the??

Okay, this sounds weird, but I need some advice or suggestions.

"If" I still had a uterus, today would be the day that my period was due to come. I had a LAVH on NOvember 5th. So I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op now. Uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix - gone.

I woke up this morning bleeding bright red blood. I had nothing yesterday. My normal discharge has looked brown or very light watery pink. All normal. This bright red is just like my period. The timing for all this is way too creepy. I have my ovaries still.... PMS has been a small issue this month.

My mom had a hysterectomy over 30 years ago. She had the same thing happen to her. What went wrong was that a very small piece of cervical tissue had been left behind. Enough to cause a period! She had it cauterized and never had another issue.

I'm just monitoring this today and tomorrow. But I'm mad! I haven't had any negative issues with my surgery. I don't want this to be happening! I was so excited to watch the days go by this month and not experience another period ever again. Talk about a let-down!

Has anyone else experienced this type of thing before?

I had my surgery on Oct 20 and have not stopped bleeding yet. It's just about gone, but still there. I had a TVH. I wonder if you may have scar tissue/ granulation or a mini period from part of the cervix. Your doctor should be able to tell by peeking in there.

Good luck to you and hope you get it fixed real soon.

At only 3 1/2 weeks post-op, it's really too soon to say that it's cyclical bleeding (or a mini-period) especially since you've had a vaginal hysterectomy which removes the cervix. Even with a cervix, my cyclical bleeding causes only the tiniest amount of spotting every month and certainly no bright red bleeding.

It would be wise to call your doctor to report this new bleeding. There could be a number of different causes (including over-doing it) but, hopefully, s/he will be able to put your mind at rest.

Will you let us know what you find out? Sending all good wishes!
