LSH: Pre-op, high carb diet???

Question Ladies:
My Dr. gave me my pre-op instructions and they include a high carb diet for the two days before surgery as well as two dulcolax tabs a night for those two days - does that seem counter-productive to you?! It sure does to me! I feel like I should be on a clear liquid diet the night before so the laxatives are really flushing what needs flushing! Pun intended!!
Any comments?

What doctors require pre-op can vary quite a bit. There are very logical reasons for each type of bowel prep. As tempting as it may be to do otherwise, you will want to follow your doctor's orders exactly. Otherwise, it can jeopardize being able to have your surgery. Any concerns you have can be answered by your doctor. All the best to you!

Thanks! Yeah, my mom (a nurse) said the same thing. It just doesn't make sense to me but I may as well embrace it & enjoy the cake, bread, pasta while I can! :-)

Definitely enjoy those yummy carbs!! My surgery is tomorrow morning, and I was told to eat a bland diet today and drink LOTS of liquids. Cake sounds really good about now!!!

I figure if the high carb diet is good for two days pre-op then it may as well be for four days before surgery too! :-D hahaha

Just keep in mind that post-op can be kind of an uncomfortable time for the bowels. You may want to eat small meals leading up to surgery. Also, having good, high-fiber foods for after surgery will really help. Please keep us updated!

Oh I know, been there done that & remember it well! I have my little supplies of prunes, granola, etc. to take with me for post-op supplement to my delicious hosiptal meals!

I will check in and say that I did not change my eating habits at all....I did have to change my drinking habits as I am in the wine biz and drink wine every day. So my Dr recommended no alcohol or aspirin 2 weeks pre-op as they are blood thinners.

Other than that, no changes......and thankfully, I did not have to do a bowel prep. My only directions were "No food or beverages after midnight".
