3+ weeks post hysterectomy: Still having bleeding/ drainage

Hi, my surgery date was 11/22/2016. I am still having quite a bit of drainage. I'm not sure it's normal. It seems like blood mixed with something else. My surgery was Laproscopic, I still have one ovary. I'm really concerned but the doctor just keeps saying it's normal. Many of my friends & coworkers stated that they had little to no bleeding after their surgery. Should I be concerned?

I have had little bit of drainage from one of my incisions. It does not hurt and is not red or hot, so I'm guessing it's ok. I would think if you too are only having some drainage and no other issues at the incision (no signs of infection: heat, redness, etc) you are ok too. Keep an eye on it for sure. I am interested in others' advice on this as well.

I had spoken to numerous woman who had little to no bleeding as well but I bled for almost 2 full weeks then starting bleeding again a few weeks later. My laparoscopic hysterectomy both ovaries left was over 3 months ago and I am still spotting from time to time... if I do too much.
Be aware of how much you are doing and trust your doctor.

Re: Still having bleeding/drainage

If you're talking about vaginal, at 3-1/2 weeks it's within the range of normal. Stitches are starting to dissolve and you might notice changes associated with that. Though I had no bleeding except for passing two small clots at 4 and 6 weeks, some of my Sister friends here had spotting up to 6, 8 weeks. A good read is Spotting vs. Bleeding.

You're still under your doctor's care and will be checked at your final post-op appointment for proper healing. Continue to monitor, watch for changes like foul odor, cottage cheese like discharge, heavy bleeding, or a fever.

I was referring to vaginal bleedi g and drainage. My incisions have healed very nicely.

Re: Still having bleeding/drainage

I spotted/ had discharge from weeks 3-8.

If your doctor says it is normal? His professional, educated opinion is the one that matters. Every woman can have a different experience, and just because your friends didn't spot doesn't mean your spotting is abnormal.

Re: Still having bleeding/drainage

I am so glad to have found this site. I also have started some spotting at 31/2 weeks when I had nothing before. today passed several clots. spoke to the nurse yesterday and she said unless I am soaking a pad frequently or having pain it is all normal. Very scary though! I never had to wear pads, I never had a period because of being on a pill. Really not digging this. 4 week post op apt. on Monday.
