Pre-op migraines
I am used to getting migraines before Aunt Flo visits...but NOW I am getting migraines every night! (They wake me up between 2-4am).
Has anyone else who has migraines experienced an increase of migraines pre-op?

Pre-op migraines
wow, you sound like me, I am 3 weeks post op and find myself at nights getting migraines. I rarely in the past ever got headaches. Now it seems I have been and just laying on the couch watching t.v. can bring them on. I havent had one wake me up, however... I have had them keep from falling asleep. I also contribute it to me not being able to get to sleep til wee hours in the AM. its horrible.
I sometime wonder if lack of exercise since after my surgery vs before contributes to it. Seems my back aches too. I wonder if getting out walking more in the evenings would help?
Do you take anything for them?

Pre-op migraines
I understand your pain!
Yes - (when I have them in supply) - I take Maxalt. When my prescription runs out - I use caffiene (always helps make it hurt less - but doesn't make the headach go away).
I have also tried Imitrex (I didn't like the heart palpatations) and Zomig (not strong enough).
The thing that helped reduce the number of migraines I had was Topamax (migraine preventative) - but I stopped taking them because one of the side effects (that was supposed to go away) didn't go away for me.
I see from your post that you kept your ovaries. I have been doing some research about migraines after hyst - and it seems that some people get em - and some don't. It also said that women who keep their ovaries may have migraines until their hormones get balanced.
I am going to have my ovaries removed and have decided on the estrogen patch (which will be put on right after surgery). I have no idea whether this will trigger migraines or help reduce migraines. Guess I'll find out!
Mention to your GYN or family doctor that you're having migraines...one of them will be able to help you find relief.
Hang in there!

Pre-op migraines
Noniohio,
Wow, I might have to check into something. Its rough... makes a person want to scream. Grouchy is the light side of it. LOL
Yes, I kept my ovaries, I have often wondered if I should have removed them. I have had two large cysts grow on them in the past, one of which was found during surgery. The doctor however, said the ovaries looked wonderful and that the cyst ruptured anyways during surgery, so she left them in. I am hoping I dont find out next year that was a bad idea to keep them and find myself back in surgery.
I can however tell my hormones are completely out whack... one minute I am a happy camper, the next a grouchy one. LOL I try to keep in mind when I am.... 'this too shall pass', and not take it out on anyone. LOL
Here is to hoping you are headache free after your surgery... You deserve a break!!!
Big Hugs,
Lisa
