Had my pre op yesterday

Had my pre op yesterday and darn, that bowel prep sounds worse than the surgery..ha! I am excited/nervous/stressed about it all. I met with my anaesthetist as well and she has the personality of a houseplant...it actually made me laugh because I was thinking they probably don't need much bedside manner because they're patients are all sleeping. My pre op nurse was great though and had no problem with my bazillion questions I had. It just seems I have so much to do now in the next 1 1/2 weeks and I am feeling quite overwhelmed. My husband has promised to stay IN the hospital while I am in surgery so that has eased my worry greatly. He is also taking the first two weeks off work to care for me, the kids and house. One thing I didn't like though is that I will be in the hospital 3 nights/4 days (sounds a vacation to Las Vegas-lol)...I thought I would only be in one night.
Hugs to the sisters on the pre op side and to the sisters on the other side!!

Re: Had my pre op yesterday

I had my pre-op last Wednesday and I have to say everyone was fantastic with me. Like I have said on here before I am morbidly obese so I met with the head of anasthesia (spelling is way off) and he was wonderful. During my D&C (at a different hospital) they had problems putting a tube down my throat because they blamed it on my weight. This doctor said there should have been no reason why they should have had problems. Instead of treating me as an obese person they treated me as a patient/person which was nice. He gave me all the options that they could to put the breathing tube down my throat and I feel 100% comfortable with them.

I live alone but my parents (they live in Houston I live right outside of Cincinnati) and my aunt and uncle (live in Cincinnati) will be at the hospital. I am hoping to have the DaVinci method so I should be out the next day (hoping) but if not I will have a TAH and will be in for 3 - 4 days which is OK. I know I will be well taken care of at the hospital and I know I have a great place to go after the surgery (I am staying at one of my football coach's house with his family).

Good luck with your surgery. I think you are having surgery a couple of days after me. Good luck!!! It is funny, I am more nervous about not being around my kids (I am an athletic trainer so I will miss my athletes the most). I am actually so ready for this surgery to be over with so I can start feeling better.

This was probably more than you needed to know but I just went blabbing away. HA HA HA

Re: Had my pre op yesterday

It's wonderful that they made you feel so comfortable! Good luck with your surgery as well!! See you on the other side! I have 2 kids at home and one away at school. We also have an exchange student living with us so I am not sure what the heck he is thinking about all of this. For some reason, I feel that if they all eat hot dogs/pizza/junk food in general for a few days, they will all collapse BUT I keep thinking they will survive! I am trying to have meals prepared/in the freezer for my husband to just pop in the oven as he is not an experienced cook BUT again, they will survive!
It's wonderful that you will have family at the hospital with you...I feel for those that have to go this alone!

Hugs to you!!

Re: Had my pre op yesterday

Those kids will survive on that food for a couple of days. LOL. They are probably like, YES JUNK FOOD.

My only thing causing me stress is my mother but I will deal with her when the time is right. I am not having them stay with me at the hospital over night because I just want some peace and quiet (as much as I can get). For once in my life it is going to be all about me and not what others think. I have done that for way too long and it is about time I did something for myself (if that makes any sense whatsoever).

I have people cooking for me (they - football coaches wives are going to spoil me) so I am glad I do not have worry about making food and all of that good stuff.
