Re: can't keep the fear off my mind

Well, you're probably sleeping now... but, this has become an incredibly common surgery. Well practiced and skilled. I'd feel more nervous if this was a new procedure and not many complications had ever happened and been figured out, etc.

I figure by now, any complication or quirk my body can throw at my surgeon, he's already seen many times and he won't even miss a beat. Ya know?

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 4/10 - can't keep the fear off my mind

Everything is going to be alright. If you wake up in pain, it will swiftly be dealt with. The recovery teams are always awesome about getting pain levels under control. I've had so many surgerys, of course none as major as our upcoming one, but I promise pain levels in the hospital will be well controled. And with complications, they are rare. Hysterectomies are so common these days so the docs get in lots of practice, which is good for us Try and not worry about something you have no control over. I get nervous about things and wind up in a tizzy just to later discover that I put way too much energy in worrying about nothing. You are going to be fine and before you know it, you will be back to a better life than you had before....because it's pain and period free! Yay for that

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 4/10 - can't keep the fear off my mind

Hello there,

I can totally relate to how you are feeling. I had my surgery 1 week ago, and had so many concerns and fears. My biggest fear was dying during surgery, or something going wrong with the anesthesia. I wasn't even thinking about the post op pain because I was so focused on the biggest fears during surgery. I wondered and thought about writing goodbye letters to my family, but whenever I started to think about what to write I would break down in the ugly cry.
What helped me is my faith. Lots of praying. I gave all my concerns and fears to God and had a conversation with him. I asked all my prayer warriors to also pray for me. This all gave me peace.
I had many conversations with my doctor, and he helped to ease my mind as well. I love my doctor! I trust him completely. He delivered all my babies and I made sure to remind him that I was trusting him with my life. He reassured me many times that everything would be ok.
I also reached out to all my women friends. I let them know what I was going through and leaned on them for support. I found it interesting that many of my inner circle friends have had hysterectomies...but never spoke of it! As women we should share our stories. When I first got the news that I would need this surgery, I felt like I was the only woman I knew dealing with this. Talking to my friends helped because knowing they went through it and not only survived, but they all said how wonderful they felt after.
Now that I have gone through it, I can tell you, YOU will be OK too. The pain is totally manageable. As a matter of fact, Im not on meds any more. I weaned myself off 4 days ago which was 4 days post op. Yesterday, my 1 week mark, I didn't take anything for pain. I have listened to my doc's advice and that of my friends. I have been taking it easy, delegating chores, walking more and more everyday, drinking LOTS of water, and getting LOTS of rest.
I hope this helps to ease your mind. Lots of luck for your upcoming surgery. You will be just fine.
