Bladder and rectal pain post op

Weary smile....6 days post op and I know I've been doing a little too much however does anyone else have spasmodic rectal pain and a very tender bladder? It feels like my bladder is being "needled" all fhe time and pressure also. Had total lap plus cervix removed and small amt of endo excised from bowel. I'm also surprised by how swollen and sore my whole belly is! Jeans??...no way yet. I had Abdo sutures out yesterday and had to drive there as nobody was around to help yesterday. Not a great idea but I can't stand cab drivers driving!! DH is working interstate (sadly unavoidable) so im feeling a bit fragile. If it were not for my adored Bengal cat I'd be in tears.
I kept my left ovary but it needed a reposition so very tender on left. Have also had spotting starting which I know is normal.
The pain over my bladder is worrying me though or am I mistaking this maybe for where my uterus has been removed? I have to go to the dentist today and just the thought is painful!! Have to though. I think I'm just surprised at fhe pain as I heard it was minimal with total lap and my pain tolerance is high. Maybe ummm I'm just being a sook but feel very alone. My daughter is busy busy and I've only seen her once which was after the op. Words of encouragement?? Grateful thanks. Susan in Australia xxx

Re: Bladder and rectal pain post op

I'm 4 weeks and had pain and pressure on and off, bladder and bowels, was checked for infection and i was clear, I think it is the vaginal cuff and bowels repositioning, i think it's normal, but if it's severe for you or you don't feel right about it, it doesn't hurt to get it checked. All the best, happy summer to you!

Re: Bladder and rectal pain post op

Im 3 weeks out and experiancing the same thing...my bladder spasms at the end of urination and randomly throughout the day...bowels are mad as heck...just the medication alone severly constepated me....Im afraid I may have hemmororids now...eeek. I think what sierrajazz said is very correct too.....everything is repositioning itself....hope we all feel better soon.

Re: Bladder and rectal pain post op

Me too!! My pain has not been good today at one week. I doubt any bladder infection as there's no burning...just pain and pressure...horrible stuff! I'm either constipated or too loose from laxatives..can't find a balance. He nicked my bowel just a little so I know there's a couple of stitches there too. I had a cystoscope also so I think my bladder didn't appreciate the whole thing!! Also so so tired....anyone else? It's a struggle to stand in the shower then dry my hair! Hugs all !!!!

Re: Bladder and rectal pain post op

Hi,

I recognise the rectal spasms, I have that, like the muscle is in a cramp. Not very nice. Just trying to breath through it and trying to relax the muscles through the pain. It helps a little. I had a TVH but also some anterior and posterior work done so I was blaming in on the healing of the posterior repairs. Had a TVT sling which was too tight cut as well and think that is causing sharp stabbing pains on the left side. I try not to take too much paracetamol, but when it gets too much I do, it takes the edge of a little bit.

I was wondering about the ovariez, you said yours was repositioned? Do they put the ovaries lower after surgery, my mom said they did in her case, I was just wondering what they did to mine....what is standard?

Re: Bladder and rectal pain post op

I've had similar pain and pressure since my TAH (Nov11). The comment about bowels, vaginal cuff and bladder repositioning is probably part of the story. What helped a lot early on and still was kiegel exercises and trying to lie down, even for five minutes as soon as the pressure builds up. I started doing kiegels lying down during the first week after the surgery. The lying down bit depends on how I'm feeling, but I try not to be vertical for more than several hours without taking a short horizontal break.

Re: Bladder and rectal pain post op

Hi. I am 3 wks post op. I have the bladder pressure. I was checked for a uti and given an antibiotic...but the uti came back neg. I think it is a result of the repositioning and manipulation of everything. I am not worried as I continue to improve each day...just not as fast as I expected. I had TAH/BSO. To sum it up, I go 2 steps forward, then 1 step back.
