Bleeding from incision site, 14 days post op TAH
Hello ladies,
Oh dear. I was feeling better today. Then I had a shower and, as I was towelling off, I rubbed a paper steri strip off from my incision site. It leaked a little dark brown blood. I rested for a bit. It stopped. Then I got up to answer emails. My dress felt wet. Dark brown blood had oozed all over my dress.
I called my gynae doc. He said no need go emergency department. I would be sitting around waiting and would bleed more. he said "I doubt they would re suture it anyway. Do you have a fever?"
"No"
"Then go to bed now, apply pressure and stay in bed til morning"
He said it was the blood under the incision site oozing out and not to panic.
I feel sick just looking at it. Yuk. Anyone else having this?
Thankyou !

Re: Bleeding from incision site, 14 days post op TAH
I had this happen to me on my 5th day post op. Its called seroma, I have been going into the doctor everyday since to have them clean it out and put a bandage on it. She wants it to heal from the inside out. She told me it is some what common to have this happen, especially if this incision has been opened up more than once (previous c sections) after a week she said it is healing great but I do have drainage everyday (orangish ,redish) You do need to see your doctor to make sure there is no infection. Good luck.

Re: Bleeding from incision site, 14 days post op TAH
Hi JEWLS45,
doc has decided (by phone, he seems unconcerned!) it is that other thingy, similar to seroma .... A haematoma. like a clot of blood under the skin at the site. When I left hospital, I had like a finger's width of swelling above incision, very darkly bruised area. The blood collects between the internal and external stitches apparently.
the brown blood is still leaking out , slowing when lay down (most of the time due to this) and quite a bit when I get up to go to loo. Enough to make a small stream down my leg - excuse graphic description!
I have 2 kids to care for - this is very hard going. they are having to see to themselves - have made phone calls today for friend to take them. Do not want them seeing me in a state.
I am flushing the wound with saline, using sanitary towels as dressings to keep clean. ( a tip I leant from this site, not from doc..). thanks for your support all. hopefully, it will stop soon....please.
