Am I Making the Right Decision?

Hi everyone, I've had off and on severe bleeding for over a year now. Two months ago had period for 26 days, none for 9 and then had it this last time for 41 days. At the end of this time, I was practically hemorrhaging. I then became anemic from that. I failed hormone treatment due to severe migraines. My endometrial biopsy is negative and ultrasound showed only a small fibroid, although my physician feels there is a larger one not picked up by this test. He feels I should have a hysterectomy. I have been booked for 6/5. What do you all think? Anyone with a similar story? I don't know if I should just ride this out or if maybe it would be a good idea to have this done in case something is being missed.

Am I Making the Right Decision?

Marianne,

The more I read on this board, the more convinced I am that every single person has a different set of circumstances.

How about a second opinion from another doctor? Most of us come to the final decision when we weigh the differences between continuing with the symptoms we have now or going through the surgery and recovery, only to have a better quality of life afterwards.

It is major surgery and a major decision, one that should not be taken lightly. I feel more confident in my decision because of the support I have received, both from my dr., friends online as well as in person, and my wonderful dh.

It sounds like you do not have to make this decision immediately, so take some time and do research. Reading these boards has been very helpful for me. Many, many women get a second, third or even fourth opinion before deciding on surgery.

My prayers are with you and I know you will do what's right for you.

Am I Making the Right Decision?

Yes, I definitely recommend a second opinion.

I've made the decision to request hysterectomy for the relief of symptoms from endometriosis and adenomyosis. I'm actually waiting, as we speak, for my obgyn to call back .

I'm scared, and nervous..I'm relatively young (28), and my husband and I have already made the decision NOT to have children biologically. I've tried Lupron, a laparoscopy, and the Pill to ease symptoms, and I'm now at the point where I just want it taken care of, now, period. LOL pardon the pun!

Seek a second opinion though - and a third if you feel like it. This is your body, and your life...and your symptoms. Only you can make that choice.
