Surgery Next Week ~ Partial LAVH
I found out yesterday that I have two "huge" fibroid and decided with my doctor that a partial hysterectomy is the best option for me.
The surgery will be done vaginally, with the assistance of laparoscope. We will only be removing my uterus, leaving the ovaries & cervix.
My doctor said that this is a "band-aid" surgery with minimal recovery. He said that I can even go home that day with no restrictions.
However, the more I read on the subject, the more conflicting information I find.
What can I truly expect?

Re: Surgery Next Week ~ Partial LAVH
I havent had mine yet so I dont know and I am scheduled for a TAH/BSO so a little different but originally it was going to be LAVH and I cant imagine going home the same day with no restrictions. I think that might be a bit unrealistic. Anytime they remove a part of the body you need sometime to recover. When I thought I was having the LAVH the doctor told me I would be there overnight and still need 6 weeks off work. Although I cant say for sure if that is because of the fact that I am also having cervix, ovaries and tubes removed. You might want to make sure you know for sure so you dont overdo it.
Listen to your body and take it slow, dont expect to feel great the next day.
Good Luck!
Also, I wanted to add that a while back my best friend had the DaVinci surgery and they only removed her uterus. It took her 2 weeks before she was able to move around without pain and she was told not to drive for at least a couple weeks. It took her about a month before she was feeling herself again and able to go without restriction. I dont think that any hysterectomy can be considered a "bandaid" but then again I am really not an expert.

Re: Surgery Next Week ~ Partial LAVH
Although I am not having a LAVH, I am having an LSH which is a partial hyst. leaving the ovaries and cervix. My dr. said I will be off from work 2 - 4 weeks no driving for two weeks.

I had that same surgery & having no restrictions is just crazy. You will have hundreds of stitches inside of you that will need to rest & heal. I was not allowed to lift anything up to a gallon of milk for 6 weeks. While it is not the most invasive surgery, it is MAJOR surgery. Maybe read the checkpoints here. I had all kind of restrictions.

I had an LSH and I had restrictions- no vaccuming, no driving for two weeks, no lifting anything weighing more than a gallon of milk for two wks, showers but no bathing to name a few.
Even thought the laparascopic surgeries are less invasive than abdominal ones, I agree with Hannie- they are still removing an organ and you still need to heal internally. My doctor told me recovery would be between 4-6 weeks. As the wise sisters emphasize- you have only one chance to heal properly!
I believe that when the surgery is done vaginally, the cervix has to be removed as well during the process. Maybe one of the sisters who had the same procedure will jump in and share her experience.
HTH and I wish you the best with your surgery- may it be uneventful and may you have smooth recovery.
